Re: my bike wont do over 60km

Does the motor sound normal in neutral or running bad? How many miles/km's on the bike?

Re: my bike wont do over 60km

well it had new spark plugs fitted to the bike bout 5000kms ago... and that was when it had a full tune up done on it... well the bike has done bout 95,000kms and when the engine is idling is sounds normal..and it revs fine until it hits 60km then it feels like its not getting any more power basically.. if i give it full stick at 60km it jsut surges more..

Re: my bike wont do over 60km

What do you mean by it "just surges more"?

I would have said to check the Reed Valve but its a four stroke so it doesn't apply.

59375 miles on a small 250 (esp as the smaller older engines are high revving) could mean the engine has become tired, but for it to just stop going over 60KM i'm not really sure whats happened.

It's a shame you're so far away :-)
If it happened suddenly I'd have to assume that something has broken or failed.
If it's fine up to that point in all gears then I'd be looking at the intake and carbs.
It it's related to rpm rather than road speed I'd be looking at electrics, ignition and cam timing.
The cam chain may have skipped a tooth, a valve adjuster may have fallen out, a carb diaphram may have torn or a needle circlip fallen off.
At 95,000kms I'd be ready to start rebuilding everything rather than waiting for things to fail.
The GSX250 is an easy bike to work on.

I don't have a manual for the early GSX250 but your model should be available in the fiche at least.

I'm not that familiar with the little GSX but you can usually just pull the lids off the carbs to remove the slides rather than removing the whole carbs. I don't think they're that difficult to remove but if it is a diaphram or needle then you can replace it without having to pull the carbs.
I just had a look at the fiche and the carbs are pretty standard so you may want to consider putting a pair of newer carbs on from something like the GPX250 rather than spend money on your 27 year old ones if they're looking past their best.

Something I forgot to ask before, the clutch isn't slipping is it? The bike simply won't rev high enough to go faster than 60kph?

I have no idea :-)
I have a set here that I rebuilt last week to put on an SRX250 so I can give you some measurements if you want.
I just checked and the GSX and GPX both make about 25hp at 10,000rpm and 11,000rpm but the GPX revs out to 14,000rpm. I think the GSX has 32mm carbs and the GPX has 30mm carbs but you'd need to know the OD of the front of the carbs to know if it'll fit the intake manifold.
The GPX carbs are 50mmOD at the airbox, 38mmOD at the intake manifold, 94mm overall length (74mm between the airbox and intake rubbers) and spaced 67mm centre-to-centre.
If they fit the intake manifolds but not the airbox, then you could dump the airbox and run pod filters instead.
These are GPX carbs but as far as I know they're the same from '88 right through to the current model.
