| Purpose of Stands? Just curious on this. I am new to streetbikes, and I see a lot of people witht he stands that lift the rear tire of the ground and sometimes the front. What is the reason for this?

| Re: Purpose of Stands? If you don't plan on doing any work on your bike (or don't know how or shouldnt!) then don't worry about it. Otherwise if you are the type that will change your own brakes, tires, chain etc. they are a good investment. |

| Re: Purpose of Stands? Thats what I thought too, but I always see pictures of the bike parked on them. So I thought it had something to do with keeping the tires from getting messed up. |

| Re: Purpose of Stands? Race bikes don't have kick stands because they add weight and reduce ground clearance, so a stand must be used to hold the bike. Some non-racers like to photograph their sportbike on a stand because they think it makes their bike look more like a race bike. |

EDIT: That picture reminds me of why I hated that stand. It would creep forward all by itself. One day I set it up, went got lunch came back to do some work and the stand was all the way forward and had pinned the kickstand in the *UP* possition. WHat a PITA that was...

this same thing would happen to me especially when working on the front end and turning the bars back and forth multiple times. never when the bike was left unattended though. |

| Re: Purpose of Stands? You are all posers. Real motorcycles have center stands. Disclaimer: The above commentary was an attempt to introduce levity to the thread. Any resemblance between this post and a serious one is purely accidental. Please do not take offense to the above remarks. I think Pit Bull owners are people too. |

It's always been a piece of cake to use...although spools would be nicer.
