How to clean K&N filter, without the kit?

Hi,I got my hands on great looking K&N,but its a little dirty...and now I cant find the cleaning kit in any of the stores...
Did anyone try cleaning it with something else..?
I know there is that moisture film on the filter for waterprofnes ect...
so I am afraid to use some standard degreeser or gasoline ...
If someone knows a bit more, and can help.. it would be apprecieted
PS.sory for my bad english speling

i always used dish washing liquid.let it soak in the sink for a few min...then swish it around ..they say it cuts grease ..then rinse from inside out ...then.....id just flick it around to dry it off for a min or so then put back dry...thay have filter spray oil if it makes you feel better ... oil dont hurt thats for sure i just never bothered with it

order the kit online. in most places its $9.99 usd. it comes with instructions. spray cleaning solution, rinse good and let dry, and then oil the filter.

Re: How to clean K&N filter, without the kit?

1) Get access to the filter
2) Remove filter
3) Look at filter
4) Toss filter in the trash.

Problem solved. You can get a recharge at almost any performance shop.

There are many methods for cleaning it. the most important part is to ensure that it is COMPLETELY dry. then LIGHTLY oil it.
