I looped some tie-downs onto the grips once. I wrapped the hook around the grip, and came back over, and down. Since I like to protect my bikes on travel, I got that thing so tight, that it pulled one grip part way off. and twisted the heck out of the other. (way to go! ) I then did the soft ties to the section of the clipon where it comes out from below the triple, this was the 929 BTW, the RC's are on top. That worked very well! (again, this was for like 100 miles.) I am hoping to never do that again with my grips. that was before I bought this canyon dancer, I just got this today.Last edited by showmethebombs : 04-12-2004 at 3:19 PM. | |

| Re: just picked up a canyon dancer! I use soft straps only and circulated around the upper triple clamp/fork leg so the can't move. I wouldn't put anything on the grips under any circumstances (I have seen the throttle pipes turned into ellipsoids from Canyon Dancers and using soft straps on the grips). I wouldn't put a tie down hook on anything on the bike, even a footpeg (that's what soft straps are for). |

| Re: just picked up a canyon dancer! I prefer the way Conq uses...softties around the lower triples, second set on the back. I do that depending on the bike. I learned a method that utilizes 2 straps only, but it doesn't work on all bikes. There has to be a place lower on the bike, around the footpeg area (but not the footpeg!). I wrap a softtie there, then pull it about 45 degrees forward. A wheel chock must be used. It compresses front and back suspension without tweeking on the forks. Works best on Ducati frames! |

| Re: just picked up a canyon dancer! I use the Canyon Dancers & love them!!! The 929 grips would move slightly, but not enough to cry about. The grips on the 600RR don't move at all. Maybe some glue would help some of you guys out  . |

| Re: just picked up a canyon dancer! Everyone has an opinion, and none of them are just gospel truth. Some say it is the best, some say it is the worst. The truth lies somewhere inbetween. This is like an oil thread, or an engine break-in thread, where some people claim to have some inside knowledge that no test has ever confirmed. Hearsay is worth something, but it is often hard to tell how much. So here is my own hearsay... I've used a Canyon Dancer for about 25 trailer trips to the track, with no damage at all to the grips. No twisting of the rubber grips or damage to the throttle sleeve, nothing. You just have to be carefull not to put them on wrong. If you get the black strap over the grip, the force will not be well distributed. Damage will occur if you don't get that sleeve on there effectively. Just using them wrong once can mess things up. You have to make sure it the grip goes through the sleeve, and the black strap is beneath that. There may be some other issues involved that make the grip damage happen, such as cranking down to hard on the ratchet straps, or where your trailer mounting points are. Just an inch or two of the forks travel is all the cinching down you should need. |

I too have used a CD quite a bit with no ill effects. I like wrapping a small shop rag around the grip before slipping the CD sleeve on...it acts as a cushion. That said, I understand why some do not like the CD...different strokes for different folks...
