race/track day questions??

Ok, my wife has given me either a track day or race school for my birthday! I really like the idea of racing but don't know if I should jump right in.

Track days are $200 and the race school is also $200 but once I have the license I can do practices for $50 and actually race. Any reason I shouldn't just take the school and get the license?

I'll be taking the class at Loudon (NHIS) and can't wait! One other question, I read the loudon rules but was unclear of what class I'd be in with the 954. Is there an amateur class for bigass bikes?

Thanks, did I mention I'm sooo excited!!!
Mark

Re: race/track day questions??

If you are taking Penguin Racing School , I would say to go for the Basic Course .

I don't know how much track riding experience you have, but the Basic Course will get you more familiar with the environment.

As for racing, I would say to do a good number of track days before you start to race.

Race Schools are fine if you've been on the track before, but racing is a much more intense experience.

Get your feet wet first, then decide if you want to swim.

Re: race/track day questions??

I believe Jason Pridmore's STAR school will be at Loudon this August. That would be an excellent school to take for a first track experience, IMHO, if you can wait that long! I don't know about racing classes for your 954, I'm just a track day junkie. Most folks I know start racing with smaller bikes, though. SV650s and the like.

Penguin is good at what they do, but I still maintain they aren't the best choice for a first-time track experience. They aren't horrible or anything, I just think there's better choices that will give you more instruction.
