| Re: My day at the track - an eye opener! Chain- trackaddix is a "NO SESSION" track day outfit that is coming to MAM on about a half-dozen Mondays throughout the summer. With them you must have prior track experience (like you just did the school counts) as they don't want newbies running in such a format.
Positives- they claim just tons of track time as you don't have to wait for 'your' session every forty minutes or so. You can go out and come in as you like. Gives the rider a chance to do set-ups better as you don't miss out on a bunch of time in your session because you went the wrong way or still have a big problem.
Negatives- Can be a WHOLE BUNCH of riders on the track at the same time or just a few. Logic says that beginning of morning session and the beginning of afternoon session is when it would be thickest. It will thin out as the session goes on and rotation of riders start going on and off the track. You will have a complete mix of riders from slow to fast. Trackaddix claims this has presented no problems thus far. But, I don't think they've had a "huge" number of participents on a given day yet either. They are only 1 year old.
There are even more arguments that can be made both ways on this matter as I've had many presented to me. I guess bottom line is gives riders another day/avenue to get off the street and ride at the track. That is the most important part in my little ole' opinion.
They do give another choice for area to out of area riders to come and play at MAM who can't take advantage of Moto Mania Thursdays. I'm betting they will see numerous bikes from Kansas City come up as all Dealers down there are closed on Monday.
Good, bad or indifferent it is at least an option. |

| Re: My day at the track - an eye opener! Thanks for the intel Flyer. Sounds like that might be just the ticket for a second trackday for yours truly. http://www.trackaddix.com/
Sorry to hear you're moving North, we'll have to get at least one ride in before you go.

| Re: My day at the track - an eye opener! Hey Chain,
I just did my first track day weekend of the year. I had posted earlier about how much easier it gets after you can relax more and have some days under your belt. Well, I had been working out pretty regularly at the gym, and am in pretty good shape, and have many days under my belt. And I was still thrashed by the afternoon of the first day!! The gym helps, but is not quite like being on a bike at speed in terms of the way it works your body.
I had a blast though, and set my best ever lap time in the second session of the first day, after not even riding for six months. This was my first time on race tires, and they were great. They stuck like glue and gave me plenty of extra confidence. I was running a new Rennsport supersoft front and a soft Rennsport race takeoff rear. I finished off that rear on the second day. Now I have mounted a set of race takeoff Dunlop 208 GP A's that I bought off eBay for Road America for this next Thursday. So I will get to compare two popular sets of race tires within a four day span! |

Did the "Rhino Ramps" work okay?

Thanks for dropping in Pete. Yeah, the Rhino coated ramps worked much better for me. No cut tires and better overall traction on the ramps than before. They could get a little slippery if dusty or wet, however. I'll just have to be careful. But as I found out, there are plenty of folks at the track willing to spot you on the way in and out of the pickup.

Yes, that was one of the first things that impressed me at trackdays and club-level races, the unselfish willingness of total strangers to help you with whatever is needed. |

| Re: My day at the track - an eye opener! Additional info, it's probably on their site though, is that they limit participents to 40 or 50 or something like that. Certainly helps with not having to many bikes on the track at once.
I believe they have a track day the end of May (monday, memorial day) that I might give a try. New mount won't be ready for the one this April 26th. Just hoping to have it ready by April 29th for Moto Mania. |

...and I still think you ought to give 50s a try. Small, cheap, race anywhere, and a good placebo in between the track days that you're likely to start craving. |

Fifties?! | Yamaha ysr 50's honda makes one to this year cheap fun racing Little bikes
I know these bikes are in cali but I know they race them all around the country. A bike for a $1000 I think you can go a full season on one set of tires you would just have to ad a yoga class to you workout.

Come to Grattan and you can try the Polini. If you can ride the Polini 10 feet, you can handle the YSR. Besides, the YSR is a Yamaha doncha know?
I gotta warn ya though, that Polini has 50 roaring cc.'s that may be too much for some folks.
<serious mode on> I've wanted a YSR for years. They look great, racing them is funner than fun, but wife says I have too many bikes as it is. <serious mode off>
I just had to get another dig into getting you to Grattan. |

| Re: My day at the track - an eye opener! Yep, a 50, and you'd fit, because I've seen others your size ride them and have a hoot.
There are several flavors, but the XR50 is the one that I meant. Sure, a Pollini, YSR50, or an NSR50 would be nice, but you don't get nearly as much for your money, nor as many upgrade options (YSR50).
For about $1500 new, or $1100 used, you could have a nearly indestructible bike with enough adult mods to make it a blast. They're small enough to toss in the backseat of a Crown Vic, too

It gets better from here. | HA HA HA ...all of those landmarks I remember well...
Chain.....Its tough to convey the actual event with words but you did a hell of a job!...Welcome to the dark side of motorcycling...the black pit of the trackday junkie. Hopelessly spending loot for new tires, suspension, and pit goodies....or hitting up new found racer buddies for takeoffs...painfully waiting for the next shot in the arm ....
Road riding...while STILL fun, will never be the same. Hope to see you on the track someday.. |
