No, the dye does not break down that I know of. It is possible that you just had it mix with the rest of the system thereby diluting it so you can't notice the pink tint. I know the first time I added water wetter I followed the directions exactly and it didn't look very pink to me. Now I just drop 1/4 bottle in there or so just so nobody can question it.
