I love how the marshal is wearing an invisible black wifebeater instead of a yellow or white shirt....

what was funny about that was - the rider falss on his head and at the end the ambulance driver puts his arm around the dudes neck.

Really no big deal.
The flag is in the corner before the incident and the first guy in the video is the "second man" for corner 7. Once the ambulance flag is shown (along with the waving yellow in the corner preceeding the incident), everyone continues to race with a no passing zone between the corner before the incident and the corner after the incident. The ambulance flag is shown full course. |

| Oh. Huh. Didn't know they did that as I've only done trackdays, not races. |

HD | Yep I remember it well I'd pass the guy on the straight but he'd trail brake into turn 1 and take the lead. We did this lap after lap....until he high sided in turn 6. I just remember seeing him slam his helmet (really hard) into the track. Unfornately, the video doesn't do justice to how fast things happen on the track. It looks so much slower on tape. |

| Re: High-Side at Grattan... Never raced, never even done a track day but, shouldn't that first guy on the scene have directed a little more attention to the rider's condition? WTF?! He would glance over his shoulder every once in awhile, then go back to flagging traffic. Even when the ambulance showed up it looked like a complete cluster phuck. |

I would want him flagging traffic so other riders dont crash into me. |

Once a rider is down, it's the "second man's" responsibility to make certain the bike and rider are out of harms way and to keep other riders away from the incident. You are never supposed to try and give aid to a downed rider beyond making certain he is out of the way of further injury (that's what the med crew is for).
I would bet he was glancing over his shoulder to make certain the fallen rider didn't crawl back out onto the track (I have seen this a few times, as a good smack on the head can cause a lot of disorientation), or attempt to get back on his bike. |

Did he go back out on track after that? | It was a 3-hr endurance race so the field has all types of bikes...600s, liter bikes, etc. After watching the video again, it looks like the guy loss consciousness and laid there motionless for about 10-15 secs. |

That dudes knees would be jello.
That looked like a low speed high-side. Rear tire looked greasy? Am curious to know the particulars: Tires (make/model)? How long into the race was this? Were tires new a start of race? What size bike? Outside Temp.

He is doing a spinal cord injury evaluation. He probably tried to convince the guy to lie down at first but he refused and wanted to ride again so the medic at least could feel for deformities and check for pain in his neck. C3 and C4 vertebrea (neck) are the most likely to be injured so this is why he checked his neck! Feel safe at Gratttan because this guy did nothing wrong! |
