Scrubbing new Dunlop 208 GP/A tires?

I will be putting on a new set of Dunlop 208 GP/A tires on my track only bike. This is my first track only bike and first experience with new track-type tires. With that said, my question is how do you scrub in new tires without riding around on the street? I've always been told that I should take it easy for the first 100 miles on new street tires. I would think that this is not the case for a type track tire. I've read in a few places (e.g. NESBA) that you should take the first 2 laps really easy to get heat into the tires and scrub them in. After that, you should be ready to go full tilt. Can someone please confirm or correct this for me?

TIA!!!!

ccwilli3 scrubbed in a new set of tires in a lap or two at our JenningsGP event (in the rain, no less).

Can't speak for those tires, but I had no trouble with my Corsa's at Grattan. Then again, it took a while to get comfortable enough on the track.

Re: Scrubbing new Dunlop 208 GP/A tires?

yeah, take it easy for the first lap with a few exceptions, accelerating and braking hard (in a straight line) flexes the tire carcass and builds heat; So do that and over the course of the lap, progressively get harder on the brakes and the throttle. On lap two, progressively increase your cornerspeed and by the time you roll up on lap 3, you should be good to go.

If you have tire warmers, they are good to go lap 1. And yeah, I did scrub in a new pair of Sportec M1s at Jennings in about a lap in the rain. No drama, no issues, just be smooth and progressive with your inputs...

I think the only people that ever have issues with new tires are the hamfisted guys...

Re: Scrubbing new Dunlop 208 GP/A tires?

Thanks guys!!!!

Now I'm debating whether I really want to sell my 600RR or not. I'm considering keeping the 600RR and turning it into a track only bike. Of course then I would have to sell the 2001 F4i, which I've ordered track plastic for ALREADY!!!! Freaking decisions in life drive me nuts!!!!

Keep in mind that your air pressure "on track" will be different than your street tire pressure. A good track base for the GPA's are 31psi frt and 29psi Rear(cold)
