My New Favorite Track

I had the great pleasure of experiencing a new track (new to me, anyway) over the last couple of days. Thunderhill in Willows, CA (near Sacramento). The first day was with Pacific Track Time, and the second was with a private group, hosted by Fireblades.org member Old Guy on Rocket. Both great days - not too crowded on Monday with PTT, and only about 12 riders yesterday with Old Guy!

What a great track! Long, fast, with lots of elevation changes and tricky corners. Very challenging and fun. Dragging the knee at nearly 100 MPH was pretty cool!

On Monday, Dito with www.gotbluemilk.com took some great photos of me on the Duc (see below).

The Pilot Powers were unbelievable. Quick warming, predictable, and stick like glue! And so far they seem to be much more durable than the Diablo Corsas, Evo Dragons or Pilot Sports I've run before.

If you can get in on a track day with our own Old Guy on Rocket, I highly recommend it! He's a great guy, and being able to have an open track all day with so few riders was awesome. All the riding you could ever want.

I'll definitely be back to Thunderhill, despite the 10 hour drive from Boise!

Nice shots whip
Good lean angle too.
Those Powers are great aren't they?
I remember checking mine out in the middle of a trackday on a hot January day and everyone else's tyres were balling and messy and mine look lightly sanded.
I've got about 4500 klm on them and they still have plenty left.

Nice pics Whip, and nice form, especially in that 2nd shot.

Can't wait to see you in turn 3 and the bowl at Grattan.

ND-the Supertechs is what it looks like he has? Mine came with the metal pieces on the inside. Kneedraggers sent me replacement plastic pieces and I swapped them out.

Nah, they're SMX. You can see the logo in a couple of the pics. Mine have the metal pieces on the inside, scuffed my swingarm in a couple spots

I noticed the same thing! In the past at track days my tires were balling quite a bit and these really didn't, even though my riding was more aggressive than ever. Pilot Powers rock!

Thanks - yes, the footage is coming. I just have to do some editing and should have it up in a couple of days. It was my first time using my new camera setup, and it worked really well.

bwhip,

Do you have a comparison between the Powers and the Dunlop D208 GPs? I'm running the GPs right now and love them. However I don't love the price of the GPs.

They're all plastic. I was having a little problem with my giant feet (size 12-13). I've learned to keep my toes up, with the balls of my feet (or toes even) on the pegs, but sometimes that puts my heels back into the tire/hugger area. I even felt the tire rubbing on my heel a couple of times, which probably isn't a very good thing. I was starting to try to move my right foot forward when turning left, etc. to help with that.
