trackday speeds

Yeah, I know that you are not supposed to be looking at your speed-o-meter when riding on the track but I just can't help it.
Anyway, I now know my 954 can do 158mph, indicated, in 5th gear. I still haven't found a place where I can get it into 6th gear and see what it will ultimately do. Oh, for those of you wondering what the new Gixxer 1K is like on the track. Well those things are just fast. I could not hang with them at all on the straights. I could in the corners. The R1's and RR's I could hang with for most of the track. Oh, this was at the Califorinia Speedway in Fontana, CA.

Re: trackday speeds

I hit 168 on the track before breaking for the turn at the end of the straight. She had a few more in her, but that U-turn at the end kept me from really pressing too hard

Spokane - one of the longest straights in North America. (Just remember to slow down before turns one and two!).

Re: trackday speeds

The main track at Firebird is like that Spokane track in that the main straight is an entire NHRA drag strip. Get a good drive off the tower turn and you're pushing through sixth just as it's time to set up for turn one. And you carry a lot of that speed through turn one/two.

Re: trackday speeds

Jay,
Nope, not going to make it out to WSIR for the 4th. I think I am going back to Fontana later this summer so I have to save some cash for that. Not sure I will make any of the Sportbike Track Time dates this year.

Wolley,
What sprocket setup do you have? I am running stock sprockets. If I late brake into turn 1 I could probably get over 160 but my life preservation mode kicks in so I tend to brake early.

bwhip,
Man that track looks fast. Not much technical stuff though. In
a car it would be a blast.
