Donington trackday

I went up to meet some chums doing a trackday at Doninton on Tuesday. Of course when I got there at lunchtime temptation got the better of me and decided I had to get out on the track. The event was fully booked so I had to wait for someone to fall off before I could get out. Anyway, I managed to get a ride with the novices in the last two sessions of the day.

I've never ridden Donington before but it really is a fantastic circuit. Fabulous smooth tarmac. Lots of places where it could all go pear shaped very quickly though, especially Craner Curves.

Under the Dunlop Bridge was interesting too. Throttle piined, I'm guessing 130 showing on the clock, as you pass the bridge there is a slight crest in the road. Well just like the Moto GP boys, the front wheel comes up (seems like feet but is probably a couple of inches) and even with a steering damper the bars start flapping. Kind of unnerving at first.

I've been encouraged by a .orger to stick a couple of photos up, so here they are.

If certain trackday organizations migrate across the pond, you'd be able to show up in your leathers, no waiting..

Nice pics. I really like the color of that blade.

Re: Donington trackday

Thanks for your kind words. I think the congrats go to the photographer, my chum BK, rather than the rider. BK was there as a potential rider too but had forgotten his licence so it was a no go. His fall back position was to grab his camera and start shooting. As he was "unofficial", and there was an "official" track photographer charging £30.00 for six shots or something, he had to hide out in an unused marshall's post at the start of the main straight. He took something like 200 photos.

Regarding lean angle and hanging off, not much more required at that paricular corner unless you want to showboat a bit. You can just see the wheel of the following bike in the top right of the photo. We weren't following the full turn as we were not using the full circuit, omitting the Melbourne Loop.

If you want lean angle though how about this one, although I agree that here I could certainly do with hanging off more. Only place I got my knee down was Redgate and too be honest if you can't do it there, well, you can't do it!! 'twas only my second session though so not really up to speed so don't be too hard on me

PS note the Euro "eyebrow" running lights. No light switch on the 2003 Blade so I just pulled the plug off the centre bulb.
