Control Riders

I've often read of Control Rders being used on US trackdays. (in the tragic post about a death of a rider posted earlier, someone says something like "where were the Control Riders?"). It's not a term used on this side of the pond. Can someone enlighten me to their responsibilities/duties.

I'm guessing they are the equivalent of what we would generally call "instructor". These guys, if requested, give an individual some tutoring in lines, braking etc, and to a degree, police the sessions. If they see any dodgy overtaking, erratic or poor riding they would intervene, and might request that a rider is moved up or down a group or even asked to leave the track. However they don't generally ride round leading the session, controlling the pace or anything else.

I know that over here some car trackdays don't allow overtaking into and through the turns. Has to be done on the exit or by invitation

Just curious to know if your trackdays are run on the same lines as ours.

Proto, the only difference is that the "instructors" are actually involved in teaching and giving input one-on- one or in a class. The novice or street riding class is typically 'led" for at least half the day, so the instructor can get an idea of each of their abilities--

The intermediate and advanced, or racer groups have employees of the track organization " control riders" circulating during all sessions and looking for people in trouble, or riding over their heads, or riding inappropriately. Their role would be to pull that rider off the track and either instruct or warn them, or pass them along to the persons who would supervise their departure.
