| Last Trackday of the year... Dave meets pave I got an email about a week ago from Trackoholics, saying that they're having a final unscheduled trackday today. So all week I was thinking about it, watching the weather, scheming to arrange my schedule.. and last night I decided to go. Loaded the SV into the van and drove out of here at oh-dark hundred to get to Grattan by 7:30. It was kind of a rushed thing.
I get off the highway about the time that the sun is coming up, and as I start to drive on the surface streets I notice a strong vibration coming from the front of the van. Long story short, two of the five studs have broken off the right front wheel. Great. Damned thing only has 177,000 miles. So I have to get that dealt with before the shops close, which is going to take time away from my track day, Dammit.
I get into the track, tech in, get a recommendation from the owner about a shop to fix the van, and get ready to go out. It's cold and damp, and we were all determined to be careful for the first few laps. So I'm cruising around in second gear, minding my own business, come around turn 9 at about 20 mph and hit a wet spot on a cement patch.
Lowsided, broke my brake lever. Gave my leathers some "character."
By the time I got the van fixed, went to Grand Rapids for the brake lever and got back on the track it was 1:30.
But Trackoholic Jim let me ride as much as I wanted for the rest of the day, and I got 8 sessions in..
Just a little more drama when I got up to speed and came over the rise in 4 leaned over on my knee at 70 mph and the front end got light and tucked
But it came back in time...
What an adventure! I love track days.

| Re: Last Trackday of the year... Dave meets pave Glad your ok..... the curse of Grattan hits a Michigan man, not an out of stater.
Me it has been one alternator, destroyed vehicle, and thank God no track day incidents.
Once again glad you are ok........ |

That Van is sending you a message. Broken brake lines, snaped studs, despite being the beginning of a great country and western song those are not good things to have at speed. Get a trailer hitch for thar Acura.
I'm glad there were no serious injuries to add additionl charater.

| Re: Last Trackday of the year... Dave meets pave Thanks, all!
I jokingly told my wife that I was only taking "the minibike" this time so I would limit the damage to myself and others.. That would have been a costly spill on the 954, for sure. |

My 929 on the other hand.... |

| Re: Last Trackday of the year... Dave meets pave all that stuff sucks. but you're ok so thats good. If it were Bacchus or me that had fallen someone woulda made fun of us and said something like "well you didn't have far to fall"
yeah only 177k miles, but those are Michigan miles and I'm guessing you drive it in the snow.
