Grattan - Where do you brake?

I was wondering for those of you who have ridden Grattan, do brake before, at the crest, or after the jump? Just curious

Re: Grattan - Where do you brake?

Into the face according to Abtech not at all according to Boo

Search the site Abtech posted a great outline of the track. I plan on digging my copy up for a refresher before this year

Re: Grattan - Where do you brake?

If you brake over the crest of the bump, you will get the rear high enough to get your attention.

Re: Grattan - Where do you brake?

I got into the habit of tapping the rear brake just enough to keep the suspension down right before I crested the hump and then grabbed the front brake. But, I'm also a turtle

At the crest carrying enough speed so you don't touch the brake again until you're through T7.

Pic of me on re-entry...

And where exactly did you leave the common surface for your own track

I'm slow, so I grabbed a downshift going up the bump. This way I had no or little braking on the other side and I was already in the correct gear to enter the esses.

IIRC, but it's been a long time. Too long.... might have to do something about that....Bill? Strange things are afoot..at the circle K.

Re: Grattan - Where do you brake?

I also usually brake right at the base of it. I have a friend who has ridden it backwards a few times and he's got a great picture wheeling over it.

I've never had enough speed coming out of 4 to require any braking other than what the hill provides...

Re: Grattan - Where do you brake?

For most people I recommend setting your speed on the face of the hump. In a race, I usually don't brake at all, just catch a downshift and let the front tire scrub off the speed when you throw it in for 5. I don't recommend this technique unless you have good throttle control, as this is a great setup for a highside.

Re: Grattan - Where do you brake?

My goal last year was not braking at all going into T5.
And by the 3rd day I was not touching the brake.
My goal this year is to carry more speed through the essess and onto the back straight.
