New Trackday Video - Miller Motorsports Park

As mentioned in the other thread (BDA116 and bwhip sample a virgin track...), we had a blast on April 1 - opening day - at the new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah.

I've put together a little video of a couple of laps. I didn't have a whole lot of footage due largely to less-than-perfect weather, but I hope you like it!

It's about 55 MB, so right-click and save for best results:

That was the "B" group (there were two - A & B). I was in the A group, but they asked if I would move to the B's since they were doing racer certification in the A group and they needed more space. BDA116 was in the same group as he was on the waiting list since it was sold out, and a spot opened up with the B's.

Nice vid. I'm really surprised they didn't sweep the track prior to the opening. Was there a cornerworker crew? I really didn't catch any booths in the vid. How about ambulance(s)?

Re: New Trackday Video - Miller Motorsports Park

They did sweep it, but it's been one of those fun weather weeks here. There are corner stations all over, but they are off the track a bit.
And yeah, there was medical on hand.
Another nice video, bwhip. I noticed you left out that part where we got all jammed up into that righty.

Excellent!!!

Am I still in control... music perfectly coordinated when you outbrake at 2:48 in the video and make me almost want to puke at 2:50 running wide on the left turn....still in control....

Wow - thanks VERY much! I really appreciate it.

I must say that I felt much more confident through the turns due to the training I got last week. I've never been able to "read" a track that well before, finding the right lines through turns and so on. It's going to be fun to see what I can do on a stickier surface.

You seem to be moving pretty darn good considering the conditions. New, dirty track and cold, winding weather.

What was with all the much slower traffic? Was that normal?

Thanks for posting that vid and the write ups. Pretty cool. It will be interesting to see how that track fairs over time. Being in the sticks and all.
But really nice track.

"Being in the sticks and all" is pretty much par for the course for facilites that produce large amounts of noise. I can't think of any track I have been to other than the old OMS which wasn't located in BFE.

Yeah, we had fun and were able to get going pretty well even with the conditions.

There was a bunch of traffic because we were in the B group. The track day organizer does a two group format. I think bwhip's front view setup was during the second session if I remember right, and some of the riders were still hard to judge as to which way they were going to go.

Re: New Trackday Video - Miller Motorsports Park

The amount of traffic in the video is a little deceiving. At certain points you'd run into a bunch of people, but at other times it was just wide open track. In my raw footage I have lap after lap of empty track ahead of me (once I passed the slower riders), but I've found that empty track makes for rather boring video, so I used the other footage.

Nice video.

Must be tough to get on a new track that no one really knows very well.

I chose poorly. Once we'd passed that guy 10 or 15 times it became evident that the best bet was to not let him enter a corner in front of you.
You can kinda see me shaking my head at him.
