Re: Putnam 5/28/06 - Desmo

Can you register on the spot that morning, or do you have to pre-reg? Also, does anyone know how to find out how full each class is? I'm also wondering which class to sign up for, I'm in "I" group with NESBA, and turn 1:21-1:22 avg times at Putnam.

With those times, sign up for Advance...dunno about the availability...email Desmo of Indiana and they will let you know.

Re: Putnam 5/28/06 - Desmo

Was Saturday by invite only or something? I just registered a week ago, but I'm pretty sure I never saw an option for the 27th, only the 28th (which is when I'm there).

Also, for those of you that are going on the 28th, are you guys going to be camping? While it will be nice to have few people there due to the other big event here in Indy, race traffic is going to suck.

Race traffic is usually not an issue unless you are coming from or near the Speedway area...

Hopefully we'll see you there...

I will be there both days, I see Curvechasers just eliminated the Noob group and cut the I group into 2 sections. Kawboy69 will be there as well, Saturday he is my Umbrella girl. I will not be camping, UFC fight at my house. Come on out.

Re: Putnam 5/28/06 - Desmo

Had a great day guys! The rain stayed away, but it got hotter than hell for a spring trackday...

My first trackday since crashing, and I was quite a bit off the pace, but it was fun to get out and ride. Even better to see everyone and spend the day together.

Finally got to meet evl_twn and his SO, and Hammer brought along his lovely wife and daughter...his son came along again...nice peeps...

Southpark, sorry about your incident, was hoping to meet up... maybe next time...

Major props to the Cajun crew and Evl for fixing my swingarm interference problem...never thought I'd see a belt sander wailing on my bike and be happy about it, but it worked great...
(My tire rubbed the swingarm at speed on the straight...there was a pretty large bump in the casting causing a problem...but the belt sander put the "Hammer" on things...

Only a few pics...

#1
evl_twn, Hammer, and Kawboy69 take a belt sander to my swingarm while I am out scouring the pits for a smaller sprocket. Nice legs there Mrs. Hammer...

#2
Kawboy and Hammer up under the skirt of my girl, abusing her in the worst way, while CBRVFR the voyeur looks on...

Hammer, Baketech, Kawboy, ? waiting for a red flag to clear...

Re: Putnam 5/28/06 - Desmo

I had a great time, and it was very cool to see so many fireblades people there.

I love the SuperCorsas.. I may have said that before. I made significant progress getting faster on the SV - at the end of the day I was hanging right with Hammer on his GSXR6. When we were both on 954's I was never even close. Kawboy69 was kind enough to pick up a baxley sport chock at Indy Superbikes for me so I'd have it at the track day. It works great, but I found if you don't have long legs, don't try to ride the bike right into the chock. and THAT"S why I've been reticient to paint the track bike...

The suspension pieces and Abtech's setup is really working well, particularly when I just relax in a turn and let the bike do it's thing. It's absorbng the bumps, keeping the tires planted, and waiting for me to get with the program and speed up. The Galfer pads on those gigantic Tokico 6-pots were powerful, and provided a lot of feel. Can't wait to get out there again.

Indiana Desmo puts on a pretty good event - 8 efficient sessions.

Pics:

>Baketech and Motopilot
>The baxley chock working fine before I checked the operational envelope..
>Evl_twin and Kawboy69 stand by to extract Hammer from beneath the Baketech 929." If I don't use eye protection, does that make me a squid?"
> the "hammered" swingarm.. The shock mount casting used to stick out about 1/8 ", with some sharp edges. Now that tire fits.
> We were able to borrow a belt sander at a track day! ( I didn't notice that its owner was getting his knee down, I guess that explains his well-used pucks..)
>Hammer missed his calling - should have been a vet. ...or a proctologist.
>Evl_twin explains how he managed to lap everybody
>RAHVFR on his new trackbike, new MIchelins, with new leathers, on his first kneedown trackday.

A Racetec 190...but the rear sprocket was a 45. It looked close, and I underestimated the amount of growth it would have at speed...

I'm thinking others have had a similar problem...need to do some thread searching...

Re: Putnam 5/28/06 - Desmo

We also had a noob join us at the track yesterday, he is a young man with a good head on his shoulders and looks like he is on the right track. I am glad to help keep hooliganism off the streets and put the energy on the track. He started in the noob group and was getting upset at the way the CR's were keeping them at bay, But after they let him loose he was on fire. He came in to the pits with a big grin on his face. I believe we will see more of him in the future. I talked with him last night and he was definately pumped as I showed him the pics from the days activities.

Re: Putnam 5/28/06 - Desmo

A good time was had by all It was really good to put faces to names, and get out there on the track with other .org fellas. I wish it would have been a bit cooler, the air temp gauge on my truck read 94 when we were pulling out I guess it's a good thing I showed up with a black bike, and black non perforated leathers! I have GOT to do something before more summer trackdays, either get a perf'd, vented one piece, or send these off for perf. I thought NESBA last July was hot, but I think we had it worse yesterday.

I almost didn't even make it in time, ended up missing the first session (which I think was short anyway). Us Illinois people have a hard time remembering that Indiana just switched to daylight savings time. So I'm rolling along I-74, cross the state line, and notice the time on my cell phone jumped ahead an hour I did get there JUST before tech closed, and the rider's meeting, but I'll have to remember that Putnam is not on our time anymore like it has been in the past.

I thought the Diablo Corsas might last for Grattan next month, but after I got home the right side is pretty shallow. I think I'll mount up those Racetechs before next month. I probably should have flipped them before this DESMO day.

I did get my helmet camera outfit going after lunch, and video's the last four sessions of the day. I haven't watched them yet, but I hope they turned out ok. We did preview a bit of it yesterday afternoon, but it's hard to see what's going on using the little LCD attached to the camcorder. It felt a little weird at first riding with a tankbag on the track, but I got used to it.

I was hoping to get a little quicker this time out, but only managed to do about the same as my last trip to Putnam. I still can't get into the teens, but I did turn some 1:20's. I think the heat of the day, and the severe lack of exercise lately (did ya see the fat guy in the white shirt?) probably didn't help.

DESMO seems to put together a very good event. I think there was only one actual crash, and that was in the morning. I had a guy on a yellow GSXR run off 7 right in front of me (I'll check the camera, I might have it on tape), but he must have just got back on as there were no flags. I think they're a bit less crowded than NESBA has been at Putnam, so maybe that's why there's fewer "incidents". Too bad they don't have more events on their calendar, I think I like running with them better than NESBA so far. One thing I thought was odd, was that I didn't even see any control riders in our group. Are they only out with the beginners?

Thanks again to the other .org members who were there, and a big thanks to Baketech for letting me know about this group/event! I'll post up some vids once I get everything unloaded from the camera.
