Trackday advice

Hello guys. I just started track days this year and started on a small track where your lucky to get out of third gear. So I though id change some gearing to make up for my dip in power down low due to my full system and make it a bit easier. So I went down one tooth on the front sprocket in the front to F15 / R42 now and it did make it a little easier at the Boradford track day.. well 3 weeks later I went to Philip Island and I though id leave the gearing the same as the last track day. But I found it too much. I was constantly fighting the bike under power. and the front was coming up out of second and third gear corners.. the rear wasnt stepping out much the pilot powers were doing a great job.. it was just under power was getting head shakes like at a damn ACDC concert and at the end of the day my arms were stuffed.. everyone on here seems to have 15/43 at the lowest most of you guys seem to have even crazier gearing. So what can I do to help? Go back to stock gearing? Drop the front a little or just get a new blade with a hell of a lot longer swing arm? i know the powers are good for a few more seconds before i go to slicks...but the way i have to muscle the bike to get them few seconds...pffft who knows...any help for the aussie nOOb

Try using a higher gear in the corners your having troubles. You could try the stock gearing.

I found the bike turns better when your in higher gears cause there is less gyro effect.

I have used 3rd on the tightest corner on my local track for years when all my friends have been using 2nd and I normally kick there buts in the section after that corner.

Re: Trackday advice

keep the same gearing - personally I went +3 back, so it is 16/45, maybe you should be more sensitive and careful with the throtte opening
a steering damper will definitely show off your package and make you avoid any dramas, have the ohlins just great so far (I was a sweared enemy of SDs before serious engagment with track addiction.....)

BTW, are you using 180/55 rear? that makes total ratio even smaller
cheers s..

nah 190/50...im thinking fo getting Pilot Race for my rext track day and i might go 180 rear

i tried riding really smooth and i was 2 seconds slower... i havnt had a tackslapper for over 30,000kms now so i havnt thought id really need a damper....im fighting it now at the track but its not getting out of shape...its just im trying to keep the wheel as straigh as i can and not hang on to tight to the bars so when the front comes up and then down it just snaps back sweet again...

i think i was jusy hoping for some quick fixes

i wanted to go up three at the rear but i couldnt use the stock chain and they didnt have any others at my bike shop so i just went down one...
next chain and sprockets ill get 16/44-45

Get the bike mapped. It shouldn't be crap anywhere.
