Re: AutoBahn 07/15/06: Casting Call

We had a really great day, temps were hot, but no rain. None of us had been to the AutoBahn before, so it was fun learning a new circuit. The track layout was pretty challenging, with a good mix of turns and short to medium straights. There is a lot of Armco everywhere for the cars, but it seems to be well away from areas where a bike might run off. The facility is really new with some areas still under construction. The track staff did a really good job throughout the day. I think we'll definitely make this a regular trip...would like to make it back next season and run the full course...

Here's a few snaps from the trip...

Started out the trek on Friday afternoon by picking up RAHVFR and his F4 in Centertucky. The new Baxley chocks are working out pretty well for easy loading and unloading. I definitely need to invest in a better looking set of lawnchair cushions though...

We found the track fairly early. CBRVFR started things off early by stuffing RAH on the way to the track registration window. Note the .Org gear...

Re: AutoBahn 07/15/06: Casting Call

The track was a lot of fun. Some fast sweepers, a carousel, the ever popular tight corner, and a nice straight away. The odd turn that looked slow but had room ro run (I think I can, I think I can). The starter did a real nice job of controlling the riders entering the track keeping the gorups spread out. For the most part the groups all ran well without incident. I highly recommend it for those seeking a rewarding track experience. (did I really just type that!)
Had some fun chasing Bake and CBRVFR.
Ride you'll like it.

Re: AutoBahn 07/15/06: Casting Call

Kick yourselves in the ass for missing this one. It was extremely hot but breezy.. the tires warmed up by turn three.

The track design is very nice other then the entrance and exit, standard Alan Wilson layout. It was a fun and challenging track. I'd like to run the whole thing, though the North section doesn't look that interesting by itself..

STT did a decent job with tech and going over the important points during a riders meeting that was far more thorough than the last one I experienced with them a couple years ago.

The only safety-related problems I noticed had to do with a few riders in the intermediate group (two on 125's) that had no business being out of the novice group, and a couple of out-of-control control riders who think it's fun to show customers how skilled they are by stuffing them into turns.

This was exacerbated by the meandering 125's, who had groups of impatient literbike pilots stacked up behind them, waiting for a chance to get by with a 6 foot margin. The CR's just bulled their way through. One of them crashed, however, and I'm pretty sure I saw him getting a much deserved chewing-out when I left.

Also, there were some really great-looking young ladies there, who felt compelled to shed all extraneous items of apparel due to the heat. Too bad you missed it..

That would be Bake - I was sleeping.

We had an 'argument' about what was written on one of the girl's tank tops .. whether it was " ask not what the pussy can do for you, but what you can do for the pussy" or another permutation. She had to let us re read it several times...

I knew I should have just toughed it out and rode up there, even if just for a couple hour visit. You saw hot chicks, fell asleep, then argued with dudes.
