Thunderhill Info?

Just thought I'd check to see if anyone had some info for me about Thunderhill Raceway Park.

I've just signed my son up for a two-day novice school with Lance Keigwin's organization. And since it's a 500 mile drive for us, figured I may as well sign up for the trackday the day before his classes so I can play, too.

So, we'll be up there September 17, 18 & 19. (Sunday - Tuesday)

Since I've never been there before, I'm looking for any feedback, pointers, hotel info, garage rental info or anything else that some of the regulars or locals might provide.

I have no idea what to expect as far as weather, track conditions and amenities, etc. So anything you guys/gals have would be appreciated.

Also, anyone else planning on going to the trackday on the 17th?

Thanks,
CC

Re: Thunderhill Info?

You'll have a great time. It's one of my favorite tracks. Lots of variety and elevation changes, including a couple of blind corners over the top of hills.

It will probably be very warm and sunny while you are there.

I stayed at the Best Western in Willows, and it got the job done just fine. They upgraded me for free to a room that had a jacuzzi tub, which felt pretty good after a couple of hot, aggressive trackdays.

Here's a link to a video I made of a couple of laps there, filmed in May of last year:

Have fun!

Re: Thunderhill Info?

Thanks for the info, bwhip! Nice vid. Gives me a better idea of what to expect. The mini-corkscrew looks fun, but it looks like the track surface has seen some patchwork over the years.

And good idea on the jacuzzi tub. I'll definitely ask for one of those when I make the reservations with Best Western.

Sounds like it won't be as hot as what I'm used to at Buttonwillow, but I'll bring an EZ-Up anyway, along with the usual truckload of water.

Re: Thunderhill Info?

Thanks. I did see that and already saved it to disk. I'll probably watch it about 50 times b4 going, hoping it will help get me up to speed faster. Even tho it probably won't.

Great video, we're looking to come down in May for a trackday at ThunderHill, that video is now going to make the next 5 months that much longer!
