| Track bike? This year I started really getting into track days, trying to do one a month. My only bike is an 04 1000rr, basiclly completely stock. So, my question (mainly for those who have a street bike and a dedicated track bike) is: Am I better off keeping the one bike, and dumping money into things like suspension, laptimer, bodywork, rearsets, ect. Or would you advise to leave it stock for street use and pick up something else already setup for the track? I am at a loss and need some input, so thanks in advance. |

| Re: Track bike? Here's what I've been up to: Not so Pretty Anymore...
I say go for it. Keep the street **** boxed up for future resale value.
edit: once you've played at the track enough times, you'll quickly lose the desire to ride on the street.
edit edit: Conq, something is goofy with the link |

| Re: Track bike? I got a one piece tail for my CBR1KRR, and swap it out for the trackdays with the stock tail. The only other prep is swapping the windscreen (I keep my front numbers on the stock screen) and removing lights/mirrors. I really don't ride it on the street much at all anymore, but I can swithch it from street to track and back in less than a half hour. But, I also have other track preps done to the bike. I only run water/water wetter and I also have the bike safety wired. |

| Re: Track bike? Get a dedicated track only bike, if you bin it you can still ride the street. I would go for a 600 if I were you. The 1000 is a fine bike but can be a handfull on the track. |

| Re: Track bike? I do have a spare set of plastics, a wheels I swap out for track days, but I'm getting to the point where I'm starting to look for upgrades in suspension, and other goodies. I just don't know if its financially better to stick with the single bike, or invest 3-4 grand in a track bike. |

| Re: Track bike? Get a track only bike. And like phobia said, you will not want to ride the streets anymore. I got a track bike this year, (600rr), and was instantly hooked, and I think I have put only like 500 miles on the 954 since doing track days. But now I want to make that a track bike... |

| Re: Track bike? I've been doing track days this whole year, and yes street riding has lost its edge, but I still do enjoy getting out with some buddies and just having fun; not pushing hard, just having fun. And Nick, I hear ya. That's one of the biggest reasons why I would like another bike, just cause I know its only a matter of time before we do the asphalt tango. |

| Re: Track bike? My advice to you is to either sell it and get something else.
Or get it non-opd at your DMV and sell off all the street stuff. Converting back sucks. |

| Re: Track bike? I can switch my 954 from street to track and vice versa in about 30 minutes. I spray bombed pre-rashed Ebay plastics and have my good plastics in a safe place. That way I have the best of both worlds, I can do track days and still commute on the same 954. I do have a second bike in case I bin the 9... |

| Re: Track bike? Look hard enough and you can get a track bike for under $3000. I got my 02 GSXR 600 for $2400.
Alot of the track bikes sold are former wrecked street bikes that can no longer be registered for street use.
If you want something newer then you will spend more money but if you are just doing trackdays then get an older 600 trackbike.
If you want to race get an SV650. |
