| Better track bike? Ok, if, IF I ever get the Ducati Sport 1000 sold, I'm considering a track-only 600, maybe an in-line 4, already set up for track. I see lots of options on the WERA board.
If I can't sell the Sport, I'm thinking about trading it in on one of the following (if they'll do a trade): a 2006 Suzuki GSX-R600, or a 2006 Honda CBR 600RR. I've ridden the '06 Gix (Schwantz School) and was very impressed with it. It was great out-of-the box. The suspension seemed more than adequate, and it has a slipper clutch. The only thing I'd need to add would be frame sliders, rearsets, and stainless brake lines. I've never ridden the Honda 600. Anyone know how it would compare? Is the stock suspension ok, or does it require an upgrade like my 929? Has anyone ridden both of these bikes? The '06 Gix is very different from it's predecessors, so I think.
I suppose I could also turn my 929 into track-only, but I really like it on the street, too.
Any opinions? |

| Re: Better track bike? You can check bwhip's threads on the Freddie school, they run the suspension stock, just adjusted to weight. He was farily impressed by it.
I also haven't yet had my suspension touched, I've just adjusted it for myself. I'm goung to do it, but haven't yet.
I'm a wee bit larger than you as well, and the bike has performed quite well for me this year. |

| Re: Better track bike? I think you know the answer to this one.
At this point, I'd suggest leaving the 929 on the street.
You know the Gix works for you, and though the RR is a fine bike, without having ridden either, I believe the Gixxer to be better as a very lightly modded trackbike. |

| Re: Better track bike? Thanks, guys!! Yeah, I know the answer for a better trackbike is the 600!
Good to hear that the stock 600RR suspension also sounds fine out of the box.
It'll come down to whether or not the Duc sells, and if not, who will take it as a trade. There is a Ducati/Triumph/Aprilia/Suzuki dealer not too far away that will do a trade, but we didn't talk any numbers yet. Figured they were my best bet since they sell both brands...
I'll have to see what kind of deal(s) I can get...
We'll see... |

| Re: Better track bike? Oh yea. My suspension is stock on my rr also. Been fine for my lowly pace (though I want an ohlins rear and cartridges up front lol). |

All BS aside, the GSXR is a fine bike as is the RR, just comes down to personal preferance. One reason I bought a Zuki is the parts avaliability is huge out there.
"Suzuki Gal 2" has a nice ring to it doesn't it? |

#10 | | | Re: Better track bike? Personally after having ridden both I like the 600RR better because it seems to be very stable, smoother, & it's a "Honda."
Here's an excerpt from a Yamaha R1 & ex Yamaha (06) R6 owner after letting him ride my 600RR at Miller...... Quote: |
For the last session, Speed let me take out the 03 CBR 600RR. It was shaping up to be a great session with Speedextreme and me getting ready to really dice it up and get some more video. A couple of words about the bike. AWESOME FEAKING BIKE!!! I was running warmup laps at almost the same pace that I was running hotlaps on my R1. The bike was solid and planted, light and flickable, great power, awesome throttle response, all I had to do was point it where I wanted to go, and it went!!!

I think I'd be happy with either. It'll come down to which dealer will take a trade-in on the Duc, and how much they'll give me for it...
I hear ya SPEED, part of me wants to stay with Honda, but the Suk was really nice and has a slipper clutch!
Oh, I won't be SuzukiGal, I'm keeping the 929!
Thanks for the input, keep it comin'! |

| Re: Better track bike? Why do you want a slipper on in-line 4 600? Does it really engine break that much? Or more important have YOU ever had it do it? I can say that the slipper is nice on the RC but I am a HUGE abuser in that area and have had the RC a tad sideways OF course it the answer is yes add one
If you are racing you need the latest greatest smoky. However if not, would you rather not have soemthing real nice AND reliable?
Oh and since you said better not best I cannot say get an RC

| Re: Better track bike? It would sure be nice to bang 4 down and let it rip rather than tweak the hand controls to gain traction again. A slipper may not be "needed" but it is nice to have. |

| Re: Better track bike? Yeah, I don't *need* a slipper. I'm not gonna race. And my downshifting technique is really pretty good. I'd never spend the $$$ to add one, but it comes stock on the Gix, so why not? I see it as kind of a safety measure if I screw up a downshift! What Hammer said....
I think both the Suk and the Honda are "real nice and reliable". |
