Re: bike setup for track day..

Your weight is probably pretty close as far as the rear goes. The front end is going to be soft if it is completely stock. You should have your sag set before getting to the track, or have someone at the track help you with it. I think that your static sag should be 10mm while rider sag should be 25mm-30mm (these #'s are for front and back). If you pay someone to do it make sure to ask them questions while doing it. Ask them why they are turning this or that and what effect will it have on the bike, this way you can learn and make small adjustments yourself. As far as gearing, if your bike is stock I think it's 16/43? If so, I would go 15/45 at least, stock it's got a really tall 1st gear. Don't forget that air pressure you run on the street will not be the same as the track, remeber to chek that before your first session. Make sure to stay well hydrated and have fun! Hope this helps some.

Re: bike setup for track day..

Static sag is the amount the bike sags on it's own. Lift up on the rear end and take a measurement from the axle to a fixed point (somewhere on the sub frame). Then let the bike settle and measure from the same spot. The difference between these 2 numbers should be 10mm, repeat with the forks. After you have that set, sit on the bike and have someone take the measurement from the same spot. When you sit on it, it should compress between 25mm-30mm, this is the rider sag. 16/43 refers to the amount of teeth on the front (16) and rear (43) sprockets. I reccomended 15/45 as -1/+2 is a pretty common gearing.

Re: bike setup for track day..

Set up is important and it does affect how your bike handles, but being smooth and not riding over your limits is a far better and improvement.
Approach the turns following the line as closely as possible (have someone that know the track show you where the line is) and reduce your speed with enough distance to enter the turn in the proper gear and already rolling on the accelerator. It makes the bike much more stable.
Follow the line, be smooth and don't ride over your limit. Mind set is far more important than bike set.

Re: bike setup for track day..

ill set the sag if i can at the track and ill worry about sprockets and gearing in the future. uyeh onevcs thats true true. im pretty much all about smoothness as is, hence the 954 purchase over other litre options so the emphasis on the day will defiantely be smoothness into and throughout the corner. i have some idea of the line on phillip island corners due to playing about 70+ hours of the track in motogp on ps2. only track me and my mate play. but yeh its the superbike school im going to so they'll be teaching us all the brake in points and lines and everything before we get a few runs by ourselves. cant wait!@!!

Re: bike setup for track day..

If you are riding Phillip Island your gearing may work very well considering it is a fast track. Us here in the States don't have many fast flowing circuits, hence the reason for the gear changes. I envy you, I would love to ride there.
