Laguna Seca 12/26/06

I had a great time riding around Laguna Seca with Red Shift. This was the first time I had even seen the track, let alone ride it.

We were very lucky with the weather. The forecast was windy with showers in the morning and steady rain in the afternoon. It turned out to calm and cloudy most of the day with a little sun poking through around lunchtime. The wind got up around 3pm, and the first drops of rain fell at about 4pm. The very last C group session was abandoned after one lap.

The track was in fairly good condition with a few sandy spots where previous rain had washed stuff down from the hills.

The other piece of luck was that the sound police seemd to be taking a day off. No one saw the 92db limit being enforced though there were a few quite loud bikes out there.

I'm glad the weather was good for you. It rained my last time there. That's not as fun.

Was turn 7 still slick from the cars braking for the corkscrew?

It did look kinda slick with lots of darkies. But I was being a real wus approaching that scariest part of the track

One time, turning too early into 8 and ending up on the candy stripes on 8a, I learnt my lesson. That corkscrew takes some getting used to, but it is a whole lot of fun never the less!

When will you be going again? Red Shift is doing a trackday on Feb 28th

Turning early on 8 is common. I do 1 out of ever 3 laps.
One is by far the scariest corner. You just weren't going fast enough, yet.

I will be there Jan 11th. I will check the prices on Feb 28th. Maybe I'll go.

A friend explained about turn one:

So you fire up the straight and aim for the "D" in Mazda as you pass under the bridge. Then, you aim for the 3rd power pole that is on the right side of the track as you crest of the hill. It works really well. At least for my slow-assed pace

I don't think I have enough cash in the bank for Jan 11th. If you can make Feb 28th, it would be good to meet you

I NEVER get that pole right - that's my problem. I look, I see all the poles, and by the time I decide which one I should use, I'm peeing in my pants.

Laguna is actually cheapest for me because I can stay at home. So I will try to do as many days there this year as I can. But I am already booked elsewhere this spring.
