| Season opener? 3/9 VIR North and South? TPM and Nesba? March 9th and 10th?
I hate the term "season" because I ride year round up here...
however... its supposed to be 15 degrees on thursday and we dont get many track days in with those temps
So who else is brave enough to visit Virginia in March?

The only run will be by trailer.

You should try a track day out though. Its lots of fun.... and definitely better than some of the roads on the island.
how long have you been riding for?

| Re: Season opener? 3/9 when i had my bike a total of 2 months lol. im not afraid to go back on one, ive ridden with a broken scapula from the accident, a friend let me ride his gsxr 750. im just afraid people will be laughing at my newbieness and i really dont know exactly what to do for the track. like i think i know what to do but im not sure, it sounds retarded but i dunno? wait is it like a track like drag? or track like a race? im clueless about track stuff so maybe it wouldnt be a good idea, but maybe ill go anyway and just see how it is. worst of all i would be afraid to **** up my bike or hurt someone else if something happened and this is if i have a bike again by then |

| Re: Season opener? 3/9 Well if you're serious about trying there is nothing to worry about.
Nesba or TPM offer free trial runs on the track. Just attend one of their track days at Pocono International Raceway and when the regular track folks go on lunch, you can put around the race track at a very controlled pace. Best sales pitch I ever received.
If you're anything like me (and most of the riders I know) you can bypass this step altogether. Sign up. You wont regret it.
Its not a straight drag strip track, you run around a road course 20 minutes at a time all day long. Depending on the track you choose to run at, the hardest part is getting there and getting the right gear... which really isnt that bad at all.
Again there's nothing to be embarrassed or worried about... regardless of how many folks pass you, nobody will make fun of you -except maybe your closest friends and me- . lol... And its nothing like the way some folks feel they have to prove themselves on the street. Almost everyone that attends is willing to help you out your bike, form and lines. My favorite part is: No matter how fast you are, someone is always faster.... EVERYONE gets passed...
I've learned more about being smooth and going fast in a few track days than I did in my first few years of riding.
How's it sound so far?

If you're riding with broken shoulder parts then you need to be on a Honda like Nicky.

-jh | the main thing is i just woke up from like a 15 min nap and was still tired and i decided ill go out and meet up with my friend and go riding. bad idea. well i was going down a road and wasnt at my full potential and came across a curve and i saw like i guess you can say piles of sand but it was like about 9 feet long about 2 or 3 inchs high and i was tryin to avoid it and i froze and i tried moving my body instead of the bike and went through the sand and hit the curb. they said the bike was totalled cause the frame was bent. the only reason why i think it got bent was from hitting the curb. deffinetly the forks had probably gotten messed up and the said the engine was no good, all it needed was a new case thing, i forgot what it was called cause oil was leeking out. when they picked it up. i went back the next day to take a picture of the road, cause in the median theres like a huge sand pit to like show insurence and the town and it was all swept away against the curb. it wasnt a horrible accident but it still sucked lol |

Most clubs just require that you know your way around a motorcycle somewhat. But I've seen some m/f riders, still wet behind the ears, on the track. With all the clubs that I know of, you have to take their basic track riding school/class, if you've never been on the track before.
IIRC, if you run with STT in their beginner group... you're in the class no matter what. If you run with TPM, they have the class that you take for your first time and after lunch you're on your own.
the classes prepare you for track riding, show you the basics of flags and rider signals, they show you the race line and break you in really slow. Which is beneficial to many.
Like I was trying to tell Kenbo... riders are kept together based on skill/speed, so you wont have to worry about being too slow, getting passed, or impressing anyone. Track instructors are very helpful and if they see you struggling, they help you out in a bunch of ways.

just my personal taste. The 05-06 zooks have poor build quality. plastics are cheap to me IMO. plus they are uncomfortable for me to ride. even if the magazines say they are the fastest.
Meanwhile, the Ninjas are more comfortable than my current bike ... but I just dont trust kawi engines and build quality for some reason. (all the recalls and service problems some locals have)
Keep in mind.... my nickname has been joey honda for about 11 years now... I may be biased.
-jh <--- is still considering a 2002 gixxer for a trackbike.
