| Track day or riding school? Hi all,
I'm interested in getting my bike onto the track this coming year. I would like to experience what the bike was built for. It seems that NHIS in Loudon(local track for me) offers track days and riding schools. Has anyone been to either? What are the differences? Any suggestions for someone who has never been to a track before or ridden very aggressively? |

| Re: Track day or riding school? If this is your first time riding on a track, I highly recommend you sign up for a track school/class, and not a track day. Track days typically offer very limited or no instruction. Schools (e.g. CLASS, Schwanz, Spencer) will offer both both track and class room time with instructors who will work with you in getting you acclimated to the track. RoadRacing World has a special Track Day edition out this month that lists every track organization in the country. Might be a good place to start.
Good luck...you'll love it!

| Re: Track day or riding school? Jason Pridmore's STAR motorcycle school is at Loudon in August. The Penguin school runs there, but that's not a great place to start, IMHO. The local track orgs around here don't get to Loudon, unfortunately. One of the local orgs, Team Promotion ( www.teampromotion.com), does days at tracks in Canada (Mosport, Calabogie) which may not be that far for you, actually. They offer an "ART basic" class to introduce new riders to the track. I've never personally ridden with them, but have many friends who do and like them. |

a note about the Pridmore Star School being held at NHIS this year, there's a noise limit of 99db. so if you have an aftermarket exhaust you probably won't pass.
here's a list of many events up there trackdaycentral.com | motorcycle track day, school & racing events

| Re: Track day or riding school? I went to the Penguin racing school at Louden last year. I got some great instruction and learned some great tips. Louden is a tight track with a lot of different surfaces, great to build up your street riding skills. I would do it again although many of my friends say they prefer just having a track day with no time spent on instruction. I say either way, just get that bad boy on the track |

| Re: Track day or riding school? Some of the better track schools are expensive. If you attend a regular track day, most of the orgs provide basic schools and instruction for first timers.
I personally wouldnt have been able to handle the race school instructors yabbering about trail braking and proper entry speed while I was still getting used to getting buzzed left and right by faster riders. An advanced/racing school would probably be alot for most people to take in at their first track day.
After you get addicted and build up some speed at a trackday (or 2 or 8)... you'd probably fair better and learn more at an advanced school... IMO its better to do it this way because you'll understand more of what's going on once you're comfortable running around the courses at speed.

I hear they run GRRRREEEAAATTTT events.
Seriously, feel free to check us out and email me if you have any questions. I'll try and hit the forum again, but with our first event of the season coming up, been pretty busy.
Thanks,
