rode NHIS for the first time last wednesday with
Lean Angle Performance School. I was kind of intimidated by that track at first because of all the walls. the only other track I'd ridden before that was Grattan which doesn't have walls and has tons of run off. But its a short, relatively low speed, technical track.
first 2 sessions were follow instructor ones. I got really lucky and ended up going 1 on one with the same instructor both sessions. halfway through the second session we pulled into the hot pit and he made my day when he said "why are you in the C group?" my answer was that I had never been to NHIS and had only done a few track days before. he said I should probably move up to B in the afternoon. I was pretty happy about that. I ended up staying in C the whole day because the sessions kept getting cut short by crashes or off track excursions. the last session was all green though and I was passing people left and right. sometimes 3 or 4 at a time. so I guess it is time to move to intermediate.
turn 3 was the most intimidating because of the wall separating it from turn 10 on the other side. One time I came in way too hot for my skill level and ran it really wide but was slowed enough were I could make the turn without going down or going into the wall. I was also a witness to this crash at turn 3. There were 2 instructors separating us but I was closing in on him for the run up the hill to make the pass. first time seeing a crash in front of me, wasn't very much fun cause I almost ran into the instructor right in front of me because they both stopped to check on the guy. but because I was going so slowly behind them I managed to get through without incident. not sure if he was the guy with the possible broken ankle or the guy with the broken collarbone and concussion (both were transported). They should both be alright though.
here are some pics of that crash and some of me. all taken by NHFF. hopefully more to come soon.
