Grattan Raceway Question

Hey all. Question for those of you who have spent lots of time @ Grattan.

I read here for the .org days that there was some discussion about running a "reverse" day. I hadn't thought of this before so I talked to a pal of mine (who's been here lots of times about this), and asked his opinion which direction would be faster. We are split in opinion, so let's ask the experts. Run the track in your mind and think a while about it, then please give your opinion. If you have time, please post your thoughts as to why one would be faster than the other.

Thanks in advance for your opinion and settling a difference of views.

Grattan Poll

I seem to recall reading on the WERA board that they were running around 1:22's counterclockwise. Not bad considering the lap record (clockwise) is around 1:19.

Re: Grattan Raceway Question

I have heard several people discuss this at length, but when it comes right down to it, the same people that have at one time or another held the track record at Grattan can never get closer than a couple of seconds to their best times running clockwise (when running CCW). There is much less braking running CCW, but it also means that relative corner speed through some of the longer corners (Turn 1, 4, 10A) are down, meaning it takes more time to go the same distance. A downhill flip-flop at the end of the straight also catches it's fair share of non-believers who think that 10B (or turn 1 running CCW) can be taken WFO without any braking (just 3 downshifts). I would be one of those ex non-believers . . .
