And that reason exactly is why I bought brand new front and rear wheels. Think of all the front wheel has to do....and it's just not worth it to risk using a damaged, or repaired wheel. No point getting a 'guarantee' from the seller that a wheel is straight.......they may have no idea whether it's been repaired and can simply claim that you bent it if it is damaged. Used F3 wheels sell on Ebay for between $160-250, and usually they have chips and marks on them, and need new bearings. However, brand new with fresh paint and new bearings is about $400-420. Since bearings cost about $50 to buy and have replaced, it makes perfect sense to spend a little extra for a new wheel with no 'history'.
I can tell you about a real situation where a guy I know figured he'd go against my advice and bought an RC51 wheel for about $250. After it was shipped to him, upon inspecting it, he found that the hub had minute hairline cracks in it. He had to return the wheel and ended up buying new. Imagine he fitted the wheel without realising it was damaged?
