Looking for Good Roads in California

We're going to be riding around CA for a week or so after Laguna Seca.

If anyone would kindly make me aware of some off-the-beaten-path and/or your favorites and/or great sportbike twisties that we should put in the que I would be very appreciative. GPS coordinates o.k.

Geographically we're open to anything as long as it's paved. Will go north, south, or east of the monterey area.

highway 49 near Sonora is awesome, but its a bit far from Laguna.

CA is a big place. But if you manage to get up to the Northern part there are some fantastic roads near Napa/Lake Berryessa way. Hwy 121 and 128 are pretty well frequented by m/c enthusiasts.

if you do make it up that way I'll be the novice decked out in green holding on for dear life.

If you come south, there are great roads here in LA. The Malibu area is tight and technical and has the Rockstore. Big Tujunga has high speed sweepers and tight turns. Lots to choose from.

Don't bother stopping in Santa Barbara county, nastiest roads ya ever seen. Only one good road and that only has a few decent turns. Have to take my riding about 50 miles south and beyond sometimes to get in a decent ride. LA, Thousand Oaks, Out in the Mojave Desert (Sierra Nevadas) as well. Watch that pashnit site. Went on some of the roads he recommended out here, had to come home and tighten all the bolts on the 9. Bumpy and pot hole ridden. Some of the rides are good though. He is kind enough to post pix of most of the roads so... rider beware.

Closest thing to Laguna Seca is Carmel Valley Road. Fairly twisty, ok paving for the most part (the occasional pot hole). Cachagua Rd Loop off Carmel Valley has much tighter turns and a bit more technical.

Highway 1 south is great from Monterey. Nacimiento-Fergusson from 1 towards Jolon is a nice goat trail. Highway 198, Coalinga/Los Gatos Rd out of Coalinga, Highway 25.

Depending on the amount of riding you want to do (hours/day). Paso Robles has nice roads in the hills west of the town. Also you're a few hours from the Santa Cruz mountains, where you could easily spend a week hitting twisties. Or east of San Jose, Mt. Hamilton/Mines Rd to Livermore is a good loop.

Around Paso Robles is great stuff. Lots of twisty roads with out too much traffic on the weekend. If anyone is in the area I'd be happy to show them around 58, 41, 229.

The Mt. Hamilton/Mines Rd. to Livermore is my favorite route. Lots of tight twisties. The Santa Cruz Mountains has some great rides also (Hwy 9, 35, etc.). Hwy 25 out of Hollister is good too. Try www.bayarearidersforum.com.

If you make it up this way, let me know. There is a great canyon between Sonora and Mariposa. Lost of nice roads up here in my area. You can even take a long slow ride through Yosemite and check out the views. We're about three hours from Laguna Seca! I'll be at the races from Friday till Monday.

Your best bet in the area is probably the SantaCruz mtns. Some of the best riding in CA. and close to everything.

Nor Cal (out by Redding) has some of the most amazing stuff. You can get in 300 miles of constant twisties in no sweat.. and it'll beat the shizill out of your hizzle. Damn near dropped by bike at the gas station I was so shagged a couple years back.

Having learned to ride and spent most of my live in aroun around Los Gatos.. the Santa Cruz mountings (just north of L.S. have a very special and dear place in my heart.. and the Calimari Highway being one of my all-time faves

) It's almost impossible to go wrong.. you can do it but you'd have o work at it!

that canyon is fun to run.. I like to go from snelling to Merced falls, the up the hill to hornitos, then across the canyon to Coulterville, then on to Sonora.. from merced falls up to hornitos is one of my favorite twisty roads to ride.
