| Re: serious question for cali people Forgot one thing Bubba. Down here it seems that the more money someone makes the worse they drive. The closer I get to Westlake Village and Agoura Hills the driving tends to go to those that seem to own the road. And they drive any way they please. And none of them bought that extra option of blinkers, or know what the shiny things on each door and in the middle of the windsheild are for. |

| Re: serious question for cali people i have been here (cali) before, silicon valley to be exact about it, but i amazed that i have not seen anything more expensive than 1 porsche and a range rover.
BTW - the area i have to drive through has the lushest, greenest rolling hills I have ever seen. They were riddled with free roaming cows and horses, very nice site. it took me a couple days to see it as the rain and fog here is neverending, but it was well worth the wait. |

Sucks. |

I agree that the "fast lanes" are sometimes clogged with slow drivers, but overall, the driving here is pretty efficient. Nowhere else have I seen 7 lanes of traffic going 80mph, bumper to bumper, during rush hour. Of course, there is a shitload of accidents, but that is where the bike comes in handy: Lane splitting! |

| Re: serious question for cali people Yeah, the northern California drivers are just concerned for your safety. They figure anything approaching the speed limit is just too DANGEROUS!
But seriously, so. Cal flows a lot better. From Sacramento down, you're not going to find many speed limit followers in the fast lane. Commuting, I regularly get passed by groups hitting 90+ (they travel in packs for "safety" down here). The "Winning Red" of my bike attracts Chippies like Star Jones to pastries, so I gotta watch my speed critically while on the Freeways.
Since you're here, run 101 south through San Jose and check out Pashnit.com for some of the roads between San Jose and Santa Cruz. You won't be disappointed. |

| Re: serious question for cali people You guys are smoking dog ****!!
IMHO Northern Cali has some of the BEST drivers. Most of us are used to back roads where we go 65 around 45 MPH corners. If that is not fast enough for you then go back home. Anywhere north of Sacramento and there is NO traffic and only a three lane freeway max, so no we are not used to FREEWAY driving but who the hell wants to drive on that flat piece of ****! That is the main difference. Drivers in the Bay (the bay area is NOT NorCal) suck because they are *mostly* all a bunch of arrogant asses, and don't even get me started on SoCal death traps that they call freeways!!
I don't know where the hell you are driving but it is not "cali driver's" fault.
p.s. GO BACK TO ATLANTA - WE DO NOT WANT YOU IN CALIFORNIA!!!!!

Yeah, this is God's country man. It's why I love it. The politicians have seriously hurt the place but it's great land. This is also a nice time to visit. In the summer those hills are dead grass.
Oakland has the worst drivers ever. Nothing else to say about it, I do my best to miss that shithole. The difference in distance from Oakland to SJ where I live isn't much, but it's worlds of difference in people.
SoCal does have better drivers IMO, mostly because the people in the Bay do more of the stupid crap like driving below the speed limit in the fast lane. They're on the phone, stoned, whatever but not driving.
Driving here is pretty aggressive, but it's like G-Force says, our commutes are long and people fight for their spot. Do an experiment, turn on your blinker before you merge and see what happens. You'll know what it's like to be an Iraqi wearing a fl pink shirt with a bullseye in the middle and carrying an RPG.
Another thing is our ethnic diversity. Many drivers in Kali did not learn to drive in the US and that makes a difference too.

I travel 80 between emeryville and fairfield and EVERY morning and afternoon there is somebody doing 60mph in the fast lane, the speed limit is 65. The traffic is not bumper to bumper, and flows quite well. There is an HOV lane and the only people that use it are people passing the slow ****s in the left lane. The left lane drivers are faster than the other lanes 50mph, but the speed limit is 65. It will not hurt you to drive it and get the hell out of the left lane. It reminds me of the traffic in Florida (SLOOOOW) mixed with the idiots in KY (Left lane campers).
Oh one more, every older man i see here has got the Gordon Fisherman beard; long, gray and bushy.
The one good thing I see here is the bikers. they have been out in the rain and relatively cold temps. | You just driving on the wrong side of the freeway on a wrong time. That's all. As for Southern California driver. Well, they all wannabe, you know, Hollywood and all that. |

| Re: serious question for cali people now i am in SD and it is nutz, kind of like NYC. people try and doo 100mph between stoplights. stomp on the gas and slam on the brake. IT IS GREAT.
I have only seen like 4 white people here. lots of phillipinos and mexicans. the beach was nice and i saw a lot of cool stuff there, clams, starfish, sand dollars, snails, a big assd hermit crap that i fed to the gulls. there are some BIG sea gulls here.
I had forgotten about the bikes splitting lanes here. there are a ton of bikes, mostly motards, which surprised me until i saw a hill side of the interstate. tell me you guys just dont take an exit and then ride the hills |

Alot of people are doing trips on the weekends now. Start in SD down into Mexico then back up through some back country. Supposed to be a really cool trip. |

| Re: serious question for cali people Bubba, just spend about 2 weeks in Michigan and I guarantee you will get a speeding or following too closely ticket when you return to GA. Traffic here on the interstate averages 90 in the left lane and 85 in the "old lady" lane. Daydream for about 5 seconds and sure as $hit, you'll have some 19 year old girl in her Alero about 2.3" off your rear bumper giving you the finger and flashing her lights.
After Fireblades.org at Grattan number 1 several attendees commented about being able to "get out of town" in a hurry. Just don't try to hang out in the right lane or that 19 year old girl turns into a 60 year old UP'er driving a gravel train with about 116,000 pounds of inertia urging you to "move along" . . .

| Re: serious question for cali people Drivers here are just rude. They figure you can just go around them. Even in the rainy weather this morning peeps were in the left hand lane doing 50. The other two lanes were wide open. There is no concern or courtesy here. We do have warmth and sunshine though. Except for today it is liquid sunshine. Oh, I just CANNOT wait for the commute home, let alone going to LA tonight..... Then again, this is extremely hazardous weather to the natives.
Most of the really slow people I have accredited to ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS. They go slow in order to aviod the LEO's. Get pulled over and you have no license or green card and it is back to Mexico for you. Ha and the liberals wanted to give the illegals driver's license. Want the right to drive? Become a legal tax paying citizen! |
