| serious question for cali people where did you guys learn to drive. I have been here for 3 days and am ready to kill every driver on the road.
I travel 80 between emeryville and fairfield and EVERY morning and afternoon there is somebody doing 60mph in the fast lane, the speed limit is 65. The traffic is not bumper to bumper, and flows quite well. There is an HOV lane and the only people that use it are people passing the slow ****s in the left lane. The left lane drivers are faster than the other lanes 50mph, but the speed limit is 65. It will not hurt you to drive it and get the hell out of the left lane. It reminds me of the traffic in Florida (SLOOOOW) mixed with the idiots in KY (Left lane campers).
Oh one more, every older man i see here has got the Gordon Fisherman beard; long, gray and bushy.
The one good thing I see here is the bikers. they have been out in the rain and relatively cold temps. |

| Re: serious question for cali people I've vacationed at my brother-in-law's place in San Diego and driven in SoCal traffic any number of times. I've always been impressed by the courtesy, speed and safety of the motoring public there. |

| Re: serious question for cali people Bubba, you also have to remember what part of Cali your in. No disrespect for our northern brethren. But the weirdo's and hippies tend to move north and the criminals and gangbangers move south. I was better off in the middle, but I like my job down here. The roads aren't quite as straight here either. |

| Re: serious question for cali people Try going 60mph in the fast lane down here in So. Cal and you will get runover or shot. I set the cruise control at 77mph on the way to work, and the Chippies leave me alone. That is on the 14fwy. |

| Re: serious question for cali people I just moved from that area - except I was going from Fairfield to Richmond (mostly the same commute in the reverse direction). EVERY morning and night. Painful. I'm not sure why there are a select few people that don't understand what seems to be a generally accepted practice of leaving the left lane for those folks that want to pass. I hear ya bubba... |

| Re: serious question for cali people As a former SoCal, I think you'd find it quite different in the southern part of the state. My last few trips there I have been amazed at how fast people go in the fast lane on I-5 and other major freeways. 95 MPH was a very common occurrence (kinda cool really because I was in a hurry). Left me wondering "where the heck are all the CHIPs?" No shoulders on any of the freeways, so I guess it's hard to pull people over so they just don't bother. Plus the CHP to driver ratio must be much lower than in other areas - there are just so many freaking cars down there! |

At any rate, pretty cool in my book - if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Somewhere along the line, in overcrowded cities like those, I figure the cops just gotta go with the flow and concentrate on more serious problems. |

Incredibly enough the last 3 accidents we have been in were invoved with people who only speak spanish.
Conversly to Bubbas experience up north....I would bust a gut if everywhere I turned was a foomanchu! I think I would fade into a subconscience episode of GTA and carjack a Triad. |

| Re: serious question for cali people Considering tht Cali is th size of a dozen of your east coast states...its not fair to judge the whole state by one area. Nocal and So cal are verry different, with the middle and southern border regions being different as well. With that said, is So Cal drivers I would say are the best. Its probaly just gladitorial practice of commuting on the freeways as you got to use them to get anywhere. Its pretty common to put 100k on your vehicle in 4 years. |
