Where to eat in monterey and San Francisco?

Any locals recommend somewhere particularly good to eat while in san francisco? I'll be there from 7/4 through 7/7. I'll be staying on Nob Hill and in around chinatown and the wharf. Would like to eat at some "local" places to get a feel for the area. A good seafood place and a favorite ethnic chinese place would be very cool!

What about in monterey for the MotoGP/AMA races? Where to eat on cannery row or somewhere in the area? I'll be there from 7/7 til 7/10. Whats there to eat? Where am I likely to see Ewen McGregor and colin grabbing a bite? I don't care about waits or lines as that will all be a part of the weekend...

Generally looking for a good time. Will be my first time to the area and I want to see/do all I can and see what happens on a GP weekend...

I have never been to Montaray but I have been to San Francisco twice. I love to eat at a place called Scoma's on the waterfront by the wharf. Fresh seafood. Good eats.......

I can't remember the names of the places we've eaten at in Monterey, but if you want some advice I'd suggest posting on this forum as it's for the bay area...

If you want authentic Chinese, just go check out some places in China town. There are many styles of Chinese too btw. I can't think of any "famous" places there. There are a bunch of places on Fisherman's wharf too.

Monterey, just head down to Cannery Row and start walking, they're pretty much all good.

Re: Where to eat in monterey and San Francisco?

all good ideas guys, especially BDA. If I drop your name there will I get the "treatment"?

I totally plan to just walk around and if I find anything that looks interesting, stop in and eat. Just didn't know if you local guys had places on your "must see" list...

Thanks!

Try the Fish Hopper in Monterey--its on the pier--nothing super fancy, but I have always had an excellent meal there.

There is also a ChartHouse at the end of Cannery Row--if you like that sort of thing.

SF---where do you start???

If you want to spend a lot of money and impress your SO in Monterey, get a reservation in the "Conservatory" dining room at the Sardine Factory, at the end of Cannery Row. Shoot for around sunset if possible. Can't be beat in Monterey, IMO, but spendy for sure.

Trivia: Clint and that skinny blonde he was married to (Sandra something?) had lunch there in the first Dirty Harry movie.
