| Cuesta Grade wheelie crash If anyone has been to San Luis Obispo, CA you probably know this hill. Steep, long, and dangerous. Enclosed with concrete barriers on both sides with big rigs airbraking down it in the slow lane at 20 mph with cars wizzing by at 70+ mph. Disaster waiting to happen. What to do? Let's WHEELIE DOWN IT! http://www.sanluisobispo.com/mld/sanluisobispo/news/local/13095609.htm |

| Re: Cuesta Grade wheelie crash they're so dumb he wasn't doing a wheelie. he was just trying to keep the bike pointed straight (parallel with sea level) instead of putting the nose down.

| Re: Cuesta Grade wheelie crash THat is a pretty serious grade. Cops are known to hang there to catch the speeders at the bottom. Now, why was someone from SB up there. Oh, there is absolutely nowhere to ride in SB.
Anyhoots, stupid is, as stupid does. |

Damper is always a good idea. |

Originally Posted by CBRVFR Interesting question.. does technology overcome both Murphy and Darwin? | I wouldn't say it overcomes it. Have seen a few people put their bikes down that were Ohlins'ed out with all the bells and whistles. But, if there is something you can do to lesson head shake then by all means do it. Never had a tank slapper on either 954 I had nor one yet on this R-1. (knock on wood).
Sometimes technology can increase your darwin quotient. But let us look at the airbag and other passive restraint systems on cars. Here, we protect the innocent and stupid all the time, yet people still die? Here is my deal, when it is your time, no matter what your are doing, no matter where you are in life you are done. The stars WILL align and a bolt of lightning will rain from the heavens on a clear and cloudless day to take you out.
Just look at all the "freak" accidents that happen. When your number is called, adios. Live well, ride well. |

| Re: Cuesta Grade wheelie crash It's not super steep. I would say it averages around 5% grade. Steep enough for me to hit 55 down it on a bicycle. |

| Re: Cuesta Grade wheelie crash 5% is no big deal. They only put signs up for that grade when the duration is extended. There's a short MTB hillclimb out here, about a mile, that averages 25% and peaks around 33% grade. |

| Re: Cuesta Grade wheelie crash I have rode my 929 many a times up and down that grade. It's fun actually. It is a bit risky on the down hill side. If a truck can't stop look out. The uphill side has claimed a few motor homes. I have seen them on fire on the side of the uphill north bound lane of the 101. At the bottom "The Man" is usually near by, considering he has a station a few miles away. This grade is very nice now compared to the way it was before CalTrans made it wider. |
