| Stolen CBR 1000RR *Update: RECOVERED* My red/gray 2004 CBR 1000RR was stolen from UCLA on 5/8/06. It had Ohlins front forks, Black Vortex rearsets, Gcraft Type 1 rear brake reservior and had a DoD base sticker on the left front fender. If anybody knows anything or sees any questionable parts for sale, please let me know.
Thanks
Update 5/11/06
Just got a call from the West Covina PD, they recovered my bike. It sounds like the only obvious damage is that they broke the locked tail cowl off. They have one guy in custody and 2 or 3 stolen bikes and a lot of parts. One of the other bikes that they stole had Lojack and that lead them to the house. The guy they have in custody is talking, and they are looking for at least one other suspect. They also took a van in custody. I won't be able to go get the bike until at least Monday, they have to process it for prints, etc. I will let you know more when I get more details.

| Re: Stolen CBR 1000RR *Update: RECOVERED* Well I got my bike back today. It is not in that bad of shape, but I will probably get near my $1000 deductible. One mirror was broken off, and the mid-cowl on the right side has a crack near one of the fasteners. The broke the lock to the seat cowl and removed the rear cowl, breaking all the taillight, rear blinker, and licesen plate light wires. The black plastic under cowl/inner fender piece has a chunk broken off. The worst is that the steering lock was broken (hopefully just the pin and not damage to the frame) and it had been hot wired (amazing how simple that is to do on Hondas) but if it was ridden at all, it couldn't have been more than a mile or two.
The cops have a guy in custody, but he will probably just get probation for cooperating. They have warrants out for a couple of guys, one of which they think has already slipped back across the border. There are some larger implications with other thefts in the LA/OC area, but I have been asked not to elaborate on them, since it is an ongoing investigation, but people are gonna serve time.
I guess I am going to have to get Lojack now and pay a little karma back into the system. |
