Camping in SoCal??

Anyone know of any good sources of info or any places in particular to go? Ive scoured the internet but I think the kind of camping I want to do wont be advertised on the web as much as those $30 a day with electric and water hookups.

Criteria:
-Away from other people
-Near a creek or stream
-Trees, not sand, rocks, and shrubs
-Not close to Lake Tahoe ( I know, this is the ideal place, but I dont have time to go that far, Im in San Diego and only have 3-4 days to go and get back)

Any suggestions???

Kennedy Meadows up here in the Sierras or a place called Black Rock (or something like that) just to the west of Kennedy Meadows. Also the Kern North Fork. Plenty of camping and the like along the river. On the backside of Kernville there is a place called WoodFord Hieghts. Not a lot of people back there and there are trees and landscapes that just rock. Good mountain biking and hiking back there. As long as you are off the road so those jackass fm Ridgecrest are stuntin up there.

Fm SD it should take about 4 hrs to get there. Also there is Mt Whitney. Be sure to register with the ranger station in Lone Pine before heading up to camp and also check on reservations. They only let so many poeople hike the peak and camp in the way out back there. Also, if you are not out when you are suppose to be, they may come looking for ya.

Check out the links. Once here you are sworn to secrecy. No one needs to know what is out here in the desert. Remember, there is nothing here and nothing to do here. NOTHING ya hear?

Thanks Mojave! We were actually looking at the area around Kernville. Looks like the closest place to go and it sounds like exactly what we were looking for.

Just keep an eye out for those Ridgecrest squids and you will be alright.

Re: Camping in SoCal??

Not sure if it's too late, but have you checked out Lake Isabella? Camping sites are a few hundred yards away from the river, which you can swim in. Camping grounds are under trees, some spots are very shaded.
