Where in the Northwest are you? I'm at work right now, so I can't post any links due to not having them in my favorites, but if you're in the Washington/Oregon neck of the woods, I've got links for track days. There are a ton of schools around for you to choose from, it's just a matter of finding where and when you want to go. I'll give you links to some of those as well once I'm home.

There's not much that happens around here during the winter, which sucks, but with all the rain, it's probably better that way. I would start lurking around on the WMRRA board and see if you can gleen any trackdays or other events such as schools from there. Here are the links that I have, hope you find them useful.

Racing:
WMRRA Racing OMRRA Racing

Trackdays:
PSSR Motocorsa AF

Schools:
STAR Jason puts on a helluva school and you will learn a ton. Looking at their schedule, the closest track would be Thunderhill in Willows, CA.

CLASS This is Jason's father's school and it's geared more toward the street rider. Haven't attended, so don't know, but they have dates at tracks in Seattle and Portland.

CSS Primarily located in California. I took his school and learned some useful skills, but liked Star School better. I do recommend his books Twist of the Wrist 1 & 2, as well as, The Soft Science of Road Racing.

Anyhow, hope this all helps. The is my first year in the Northwest and will be racing with OMRRA this upcoming season. If you have any questions I'll do my best to try and help and if you start racing, lemme know.

Re: Racing schools?

ummmm start with a 250 and then step up?

If you get half way proficient on a 250, you will regularly humiliate seasoned riders on their liter bikes. A 250 GP bike is not the best idea for a starting racebike, as they can (and often do) put you on your ass in a heartbeat.

Re: Racing schools?

In line with what Abtech is preaching, I would suggest something along the lines of an SV650 or FZR400. At Abtech's advice last year, I bought and started racing an SV and I haven't looked back. It is without a doubt, the most fun bike I have ever had the pleasure to ride around a track. It's forgiving and increased my lap times tremendoudly over my last 600 and my 954. The other thing to think about is wrenching on a 2 stroke. It's more of an art and science balled into one and you better know a lot, have a lot of spare parts or know someone that does.
