| Re: Motorcyclist Killed After High-Speed Crash * WARNING PICTURES * [quote=soupnazi;620539]There's risk and there's calculated risk. Sure I speed though it's circumstantial.
Let's depict the scene.
Abandoned freeway at 1am in the morning. No traffic to speak of with the exception of a large truck. Rider not just speeding, but excessively speeding . Truck becomes target of inexperienced rider view and a twist of the throttle sends him catapulting into the rear of a truck at such speed that even though the truck was moving away at 60mph he still managed to embed his head into the trailer.
That's not just a result of speeding. That's inexperience and no calculation of risk. He didn't set out to kill himself but that doesn't NOT make him a moron for not taking better care of himself.
Would you, as a person capable of rational thought (well I hope you are), go out and buy a top fuel dragster and with no experience with it whatsoever attempt to set a land speed record?
If you died would people question your intentions or perhaps your a] |

| Re: Motorcyclist Killed After High-Speed Crash * WARNING PICTURES * Ok I am really tired of seeing this one rehashed when their was already a thread for it.
I did not know him personally but a good friend of mine did. He had less than a weeks riding experience when this happened.
He chose to ride with a peer group that was made up of young people and inexperienced riders, he never made it long enough to even get around some of the older more experienced riders at local hang outs and get togethers.
The group he chose to rocket out in front of was already in excess of the speed limit.
This is no abandoned freeway it always has traffic on it just a lot less at 1am.
Every new rider starts out with a empty bag of skill and a full bag of luck, the goal is to fill your bag of skill before your bag of luck empties out. Unfortunately his luck ran out first.
To those of you who wish to turn this into a fight I ask you these questions.
How would you feel if a family member or loved one were to come across a thread concerning a mistake you made when riding with people fighting arguing and calling you names? Do you want to be remebered in such a manner?
As I have nothing worthwhile to further contribute to this thread thank you for taking a moment to consider what I have written.

Motorcyclist Killed After High-Speed Crash Overnight Tuesday April 17, 2007 11:07am Posted By: Kevin King
Tulsa - A Broken Arrow man was killed early Tuesday morning after a motorcycle accident on Highway 169 near 81st Street.
Witnesses say the cyclist was going faster than 100 miles per hour when he crashed into the back of a semi truck between 81st and 91st Street at about one o'clock Tuesday morning.
Investigators say evidence shows the cyclist was going about 120 miles per hour at the time of the impact. It took the truck driver more than a quarter of a mile to come to a stop. When he did, he stepped out of his rig and found the motorcyclist dead at the back of the truck.
"The truck driver was not hurt," says Captain Matt Kirkland. "He said that the impact was so strong that he thought he was hit from behind by another truck."
Officers said there was no indication that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the accident. | |

I'm of two minds on this one. It's sad that someones loved one is gone, on one hand. On the other part of me thinks "dumb ass!"
There was a similar incident on my way to work a few weeks ago. 20 year old rides 150 in a 50 right into the side of a car. Very nice floral memorial on the side of the road. |

| Re: Motorcyclist Killed After High-Speed Crash * WARNING PICTURES * THIS is common sense, if you are riding at night time= limited vision
If you are riding at night time wearing a heavily tinted day visor -NO VISION. And then you add big speeding to the mix. He took the gamble and rolled the dice, and thank god he didn't take anyone else with him. Kinda sucks for the trucker/his family and loved ones, and the clean up crews though! |

| Re: Motorcyclist Killed After High-Speed Crash * WARNING PICTURES * Don't know what to say about this, it's terribly sad and too common. Perhaps further education should be required for new riders...even class endorsements for varying cc's, A for 1000cc and above, B for 750cc and under, etc. Leaving it up to new riders to educate themselves obviosly isn't working and the riding community can only do so much. Very sad. <--- This is what we need to do in order to get folks educated.
I wonder if we could participate in something through fireblades? just a thought. |

| Re: Motorcyclist Killed After High-Speed Crash * WARNING PICTURES * Personally, I don't understand how anyone can consider him a hero. Heroes overcome fear to do amazing things to help others. This guy just plowed into a big friggin' truck and killed himself. Yeah, I feel bad for his family, and it sucks that we lost another rider, but no way is this guy up for a medal of any kind for nearly decapitating himself. There may be a fine line between bravery and stupidity, but this guy definitely long jumped his way over it. As for learning from his mistake, not gonna happen. All this did is reinforce my already low opinion of so many new riders on race replicas. Giant brass balls will never be a substitute for common sense, good judgment and experience when it comes to survival. |

R.I.P. | Good call.
Let this kid R.I.P.
He paid with his life, made an unexperienced mistake and now is gone, unable to defend his actions.
Let every new(and old) rider realise we are not invinsible.
Stupid hurts.
Maybe start a new thread on "stupid things we do/or have done on our bikes"
ps.teach your newbie riders to ride within there limits, and dont try and compare yourself with someone with a bigger bike and more experience. |

Have some respect for the person in the accident, and there family members.
What if that was someones brother or something like that.
I understand that is makes riders more aware.
BUT F**K HAVE SOME RESPECT AND REMOVE THE PICS.

LET THE DEAD RIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | I would normally agree, but I think in this case it's important to see. Hopefully the kid who crashed doesn't want others to make the same mistakes he did. But, as was said before, sometimes pictures like this just don't seem real enough to convince somebody to slow down. It seems to me like a big factor in this is the group he was riding with. You put a bunch of inexperienced kids on fast bikes and they're going to try to compete.
I'm pretty young and new to sportsbikes myself, and I think the most valuable resources I have are the more experienced riders who took me on rides and literally led by example.
There are some people I just won't ride with for whatever reason, ie speedfreaks and guys who prefer SOTGWIFLI over ATGATT. (Some of the gear whenever I feel like it).
Haha, a quote from Gone in 60 Seconds comes to mind "You don't know the first thing about stealing a car! Boy! You need a role model!" Yeah, except replace stealing a car with riding a motorcycle. |

LET THE DEAD RIP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | If it was my family I would say leave the pictures up as a warning to others. That way there would be something positive from the loss.
Hell I'd post em myself in as many places as possible to advocate for rider training. |
