Another Motorcyclist Killed...

An Orlando motorcyclist going about 100 mph died early Friday when he struck a tree face first on Woodbury Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The impact instantly killed Julio Vargas, 29, in the 3:06 a.m. crash, said FHP spokeswoman Trooper Kim Miller.

There were three more motor vehicle deaths overnight in Central Florida, including another Orange County resident whose identity has not been released. The other deaths were in Brevard and Volusia counties, according to FHP.

Vargas was riding a 1300 cc. Suzuki Hayabusa , the world's fastest production motorcycle, without a motorcycle endorsement or insurance, Miller said.

A helmet he was wearing shattered into multiple pieces, troopers said. It was the 19th motorcycle death investigated so far this year by FHP in Orange County.

Motorcycle deaths in Orange County jumped 52 percent last year to 32 from 21 in 2005, according to statistics released this week by the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.

Deaths statewide increased 15 percent to 550 from 477 in 2005.

Motorcycling injuries have more than doubled in 10 years to 7,934 last year. Of those, 2,856 were incapacitating injuries and included 1,176 victims who were not wearing helmets.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- A motorcyclist was killed after an accident in Lyndon.Metro police officers said the motorcyclist collided with a car just before 10 p.m. Wednesday on New Lagrange Road near Lyndon Lane.Investigators said the victim was heading west on New Lagrange when a car pulled out in front of him.The motorcyclist was taken to University Hospital, where he later died."Obviously, it's still a very dangerous situation. I stress again that people need to be aware that motorcyclists are on the road and consider all of the drivers when operating," Louisville Metro Police Department Detective Phil Russell said. "Unfortunately, it looks like a tragic accident."Russell said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.Police have not released his name, but investigators said he is in his late 20s.

Its pretty sad... I was riding with this guy just the night before.... Basically a car pulled right out in front of him...

Re: Another Motorcyclist Killed...

Was he using his legs to steer and his toe to pick his nose or something? Thats just plain ignorance seriously.

Over here its illegal for the public to talk (whilst holding their mobile) and to drive.. They can have the in car speakers etc, but cannot hold it.

Re: Another Motorcyclist Killed...

Starting in January, there is a new law here in Cali that says you have to use a hands free set to talk while driving.

Neither one of those methods have been proven to decrease driver distraction. The driver is concentrating on the conversation instead of the road. They might as well light up a cig, recline the seatback, pop in a DVD in the flipout in-dash player, and take a nap. Twice this afternoon in the same trip did I almost get creamed by inattentive douches.

It's drivers like that who have nearly taken me out so many times. I'm pretty anti-litigation but if I ever go out like that you can all sue on my behalf for the good of motorcyclists everywhere. Lady in a minivan changed lanes right on top of me today. Even with me honking and flashing lights I don't think she ever figured out that she had even done something wrong.

Re: Another Motorcyclist Killed...

This seems to be the trend everywhere! It also has the insurance companies/government talking about placing speed restrictors on sport bikes as well out right putting a ban on them.

Re: Another Motorcyclist Killed...

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) -- A 12-year-old eastern Kentucky boy was killed on Saturday when the motorcycle he was riding struck an embankment, police said.
Austin Allen of Pikeville attempted to leave the roadway and enter a yard when his Yamaha motorcycle hit an embankment. Allen was ejected from the bike and struck a tree. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts. He was not wearing a helmet, police said.

Not sure why someone let this kid on a motorcycle without a helmet..
