Wrecked Bike HAve some QUes?

Ok So I layed the bike down on the left side.
I thought everything was gravy till I looked down
an saw oil all over the ground.
OK Im an optamistic person so, no biggie just a cracked
stator cover...Ok I can work with that.
THen after I buy the cover,An go to put it on, the Casing
for the motor seems to be cracked to! Damit! Ok now Im getting
mad.

My Question is,Can YOu JB weld or any other type of weld to the Engine casing?
I really dont want to buy a new motor/or switch the casing, both are way to time consuming...but i think i might have to get another motor.
can you help (Please) I need my baby back..

Re: Wrecked Bike HAve some QUes?

did the same thing to a 929 locked up the front allmost had it stoped, then wam i layed her down on the left side same thing oil on the ground, had my wife bring the truck took her home the next day i bought the stator cover and gasket put it on, and when i whent to put oil it spewed all over the garage it seems that the engine case where it meets the swingarm pivot and rear shock is stressed when hit from the left side i ended up with a crack all the way down the side o f the stator cover to the bottom of the engine case and a hole the size of a nickle, I ended up buying a used case cover from JF Motorcycle frames for $500 bucks and paying $1,800.oo total for the labor it took 2 weeks for my local honda dealer to swap the case also replaced seals and piston rings, the bike felt almost new at the end.

Re: Wrecked Bike HAve some QUes?

i have had success welding engine cases before..labor rates all depend on access to the damged area..if i can get a welding tip in there i can weld it..any good welder will say the same thing..that and it has to be clean! JB weld will only hold for so long..it doesn't do well with a lot of vibration...GOOD LUCK!

Re: Wrecked Bike HAve some QUes?

TO TRAV: you need a 23mm reverse thread bolt...(i think thats the size)..try a company like FASTENAL(might have two L's)..they are nation wide and can get ANYTHING to do with bolts for half the cost of Honda

Re: Wrecked Bike HAve some QUes?

Hi Guys

It's been forever now since I took my Blades engine in for the aluminium welding. The welding has been done but I'm still waiting on the finishing touches. Some holes need to be drilled and tappedand the gasket surfuce machined down. Shows that casings can be fixed. Got myself another 929 in the meantime and will sell the other one soon as it is fixed up.

Hope you other guys with the broken casings get sorted.
