| I crashed last thursday I was riding back from work when a granpa in 4 wheeler decided to take an illegal u-turn just like 2 meters infront of me no turn signals or anything I nailed the brake very hard knowing that there is no way out then I laid the bike down right before I hit the car so the bike hits his car that wasn't enough to stop it well I nailed his fuel tank from the bottom no idea why that is on the left side instead of the right !! fuel went all over the place well the bike got stucked some how in the rear of the car obviously he didn't stop he even accelrated more that he went over the side walk on the other way of the road the damage is front cowl is totally f**ked instrument cluster even my key got bent a dent in the front of the gas tank a bent radiator left clip-on broke switches on both sides got rashed pretty well my 5" frame slider did it's job and protected the frame and fairings around it unfrotunally the left alternator cover broken guess it hit something on the road I"m ok myself got lightly rashed knee somehow (without cutting my denim pants) and body aches here and there but nothing serious when i fell I hit my head pretty hard so thank god for the helmet and this is a reminder for who still doesn't wear gear to put them on what really pisses me off the most is that the guy didn't seem to care much about it and he thinks that I toke him out from behind pushing him all the way to the other side of the road and over the sidewalk which is over 15 meters away not to mention 90 degrees to my direction of travel and since he have no insurance he thinks I should pay for the damage. if I weren't that daisy from the hit I'll give him a fistful worth of talk. well personally I thank god it's only gotten this far a little spark over there and we both would go in a bang and now it's time for the repair journey |

There are a couple of guys who say laying the bike down is unesassary but I've done it before, too.
I'll take my chances with the asphalt before I go through a windshield anyday. |

| Re: I crashed First, learn how to punctuate a sentence. Second, you should have called the cops right off the bat. Third, tell him you are injured and the doctor says your medical bills could run into the tens of thousands of dollars but you would settle for 15K cash :o) |

I'll take my chances with the asphalt before I go through a windshield anyday. | Actually, you're taking your chances with exactly what he described: fuel tanks leaking on you and then igniting your entire body in flame, getting stuck under the body of the car, getting stuck under your bike, having your legs scraped and crushed by metal objects, losing your skin and muscles to hot engine pieces burning through your jeans and body (this is why we wear leather whenever getting on a motorcycle), etc.
Those things are avoided when you spend as much time upright as possible, which gives you the maximum opportunity to slow the bike down with braking. The slower you are going before impact, the less damage your body takes, and you're likely to be tossed over the car anyway.
More than a few people say not to lay the bike down on purpose. |
