Christmas trees are my new enemy...

I was on my way home the other night from work driving down a road that is not very well lit. Unfortunately there were cars oncoming but none in front of me. With the headlights in my eyes and not being able to have my high beams on I wasn't able to see the obstacle in the middle of the road until I was about 20 feet away from it.

All I saw was my light reflect of a plastic bag on the left side of the road. I was thinking I wouldn't even be close to whatever it was until my front tire locked up when it hit a Christmas tree, yes that's right, a 7' Christmas tree with the tree stand still attached.

There was a lot of vandalism around here that night and I'm thinking someone put it there on purpose (probably not thinking someone on a motorcycle would hit it, or they didn't care, probably the later).

Over $3700 damage later and about 2 weeks without my bike, not to mention insurance wanted to call it an "at fault accident" and not pay (this worked out for me). I will be able to update if everything is fixed by weeks end.

Moral of the story...Chrstmas trees are pretty in peoples houses but they are very ugly at 40mph laying in the middle of the road.

Dood that sux!! Sounds like you're alright now tho, so that's all good. Insurance better fix it up... that's why we pay them so much money right?? Hopefully everything works out. I will learn from this crazyness and keep the bike off the road til spring.

Just got the bike back today. I only have a few miles on it but so far so good. I haven't gone over it yet with a fine tooth comb yet but I will when I get the chance in the daylight.

that's sucky....did you end up giving the insurance company a hard time...seems like for 3700 it might have been easier to just suck it up

Re: Christmas trees are my new enemy...

The insurance company came around after I just about tore the agent on the phone a new one. I'm not sure if everything is good now. There is some kind of grinding noise. Not sure if it's my chain that needs to be adjusted or what. I have to get it back in and have it checked before the insurance company and dealership both say, "Too late".
