You basically need the key, without that you are snookered.
If the key is a no-go, you will have to spend money (& time) on changing the ECU etc (a complete lock set + ECU + chips cost about £500 second hand in the UK)
Here is a set for a 600RR7 so you know what you will have to basically purchase if you cant get hold of the key ( Item # 380029230284) - good luck

| Re: PICS OF PROJECT " WIFE DONT KNOW" Up to 4 keys can be programmed into the 954 ECU. Get a Haynes manual it has the key programming procedure, you can then buy a key and have it cut to your ignition and program it in. I would get the key cut to the lockset first before programming.
I don't even live in a country which has H.I.S.S. equipped bikes and I know this. C'mon guys get it together. |

I was told that I've needed to have an existing key which is already programed before I can program a new key, your the first to tell me different. No one has ever told me different apart from you.

C'mon guys get it together. | You're right about the 4 key's but they have to be programed off 1 of the original keys for that ecu and hiss system other wise it will not work. What is the point of having the hiss system if all you have to do is get a key cut and reprogram it. If you don't have an original key for that ecu then you will have to buy a new set. |

| Re: PICS OF PROJECT " WIFE DONT KNOW" Shouldnt you be able to go to a Honda dealer with the bikes VIN and have them look up the key codes and then cut/program a new one with the same codes?? I know its not a bike...but i had to do that right after I bought my corvette. I lost the only key I had for it, so i went to the dealer, and they used the VIN to cut and program a new key...but idk...never even seen a bike with the HISS. |

At that time I didnt know what HISS was or anything about it, so off I went to both my Local Motorbike Shop and then to the Dealer, both quoted me £1000+ for a lovely new ECU and lock set. You can imagine what I said to them.
You would have thought they would have made it like cars, if I lost my keys for any of my cars, all I need is the V5/Logbook, some cash and some identity and I can get a key cut - Hondas are slightly Different. You can get the key cut, but you cannot get it coded unless you have an original key (99% have told me this - even my dealer :S)

| Re: PICS OF PROJECT " WIFE DONT KNOW" That's the same problem I'm sitting with. The dealer won't give me the codes for my key, he wants to sell me a lock set. If you look at the current exchange rate you wil realise what that adds up to. |

Also, im not sure if the dealer has your codes, no dealer i contacted were able to help me, they just told me to buy an ECU/locks set/chips etc.
Over here a new set is £1000, second hand i could have got one for £450. Thats a big gap for such a little thing.

I seem to recall people circumnavigating the HISS system by aquiring an ECU off a non-HISS equipped model. Well, they spoke about doing it but I didn't find out the result.
Technically there's no reason it wouldn't work though as the immobilising part is replaced with one which doesn't require the chip activation. |

| Re: PICS OF PROJECT " WIFE DONT KNOW" I can't believe no one here has gotten a haynes manual out and looked this up. I'll dig it out tomorrow.
The key cut code is on the side of the lock cylinder btw, your stealerships appear to be trying to take advantage of everyone if I am right.
Order the unprogrammed blank key and have a locksmith cut it for you thats the easiest thing, a competent locksmith can impression a key by putting the blank in wiggling it then manually filing the cuts, I had it done on my old shadow once. |

| Re: PICS OF PROJECT " WIFE DONT KNOW" OK just got the manual out, yes you do need an already registered key for an existing ECM sorry. But you can replace the ECM with a brand new one have a couple of transponder keys cut to your original lockset and program a brand new ECM from scratch. No reason to buy and replace an entire lockset and risk getting a bad part off of e-bay.
The ECM will handle up to 4 keys. The EPROM used to store the key codes in the ECM unit is not a reprogramable model, I bet a competent EE could desolder the surface mount EPROM and solder in a new one Thus returning the ECM into an original unprogrammed unit.
Too bad I don't have the capability of getting my hands on a eurospec unit, its probably just a matter of a small jumper to disable the HISS once inside the ECM.
Sorry I was wrong. |

I should say from what you quoted that the sensors and lockset are interchangeable as long as you have a matching ECU and Chip.

| Re: PICS OF PROJECT " WIFE DONT KNOW" Yep as long as you have the keys to match the ECU you can swap that other stuff around.
Theres a special honda harness tool needed to program keys or you can make it.
If you don't have a service Manual get one. I don't know about the OEM manual but this is covered by the Haynes Manual. |
