| No Gear At the moment when this image was captured neither the bike nor the rider had suffered any significant damage. I can't imagine how this guy got himself into this situation but you will notice he has not exactly spent up large on safety gear so unless we have a lake on the other side of that fence

| Re: No Gear it's like the old saying goes..."how fast can you afford to go?"...riding at anything above 20mph without something thicker then denim on is asking for trouble...plus..having a horribly hot and sweaty set of leathers on makes the stop at the pub a block or so from the house that much more enjoyable(I'm not condoning drinking and riding in any manner or fashion!) |

Hotter than riding in flip flops and shorts for sure but not too bad as long as you're moving. I don't think they are uncomfortable at all.
I'd shop STG's collection before going eBay... 500 Leather Suits IN STOCK! Sportbiketrackgear.com 888-784-4327

It's all about priorities. I just spent that much less money on my bike so I had that much more money to spend on gear. If you can't afford the gear then you can't afford the bike. If you have $3000 to spend then that means a $1750 bike, if you have $6500 to spend then that would mean a $5250 bike. |

At the same time they riding with levi's. |

Not being able to afford gear is an even more lame excuse nowadays. With the internet a good kit can be had for a lot less money than most of us old timers had to spend back in the springtime of our youths. And our bikes were far pokier then than now. |

djer73.. so spend as much as you can afford on riding gear
|
I couldn't afford a new leather jacket when I needed one, not as a single mum with kids to feed and bills to pay etc (I've even been in the situation in the past, where I had so little money that my kids ate but I didnt as I couldnt afford to feed all of us!!!).
After I moved here and met Sideshow, I realised was gonna need a leather jacket so I hit ebay and bought myself 2 leather jackets.. a summer one and a winter one, a size bigger so I can wear a fleece under it to help stay warm.. I paid the princely sum of £10 for one and £12 for the other.. that was over 2 years ago and while both jackets are 2nd hand, of indeterminant age, both are in pretty good nick and do their job..
I would love to have brand new leathers.. hell the leather jeans I wear are the OH's, cos I cant afford my own right now.. but while the prices of just about everything are going up way faster than my pay (yes I'm skint most of the time) new leathers will have to wait..
Having 2nd hand kit doesnt bother me, for a start it saves me a fortune (£100+ vs £12) and its all I can afford.... Granted my kit doesn't look as good as other peoples, its a bit shabby (i do shab anyway) and its not the lastest 'fashion' in leathers, it definately doesn't match my bike but at the end of the day I can still ride my bike and be safe.. |

Thats the reason I got my bike used, so I could get good gear. I started out with textile gear to get me rolling, then upgraded piece by piece, now i'm a full leather power-ranger |

Whatever.
Don't cry to me about not having enough "spare cash." I'm in my 7th year of university education with two more to go, so I know all about not having any money. I paid for my undergradate education by busting my butt landscaping for $10 an hour. I rode around on a $500 dirtbike (on dirt, not the street) for years while I saved until I had money to buy the bike, gear, insurance, medical insurance, and every other necessary expense that comes with having a sport bike. If at 16 you couldn't afford gear then you didn't need to be riding. I have no sympathy for any 16 year old that can't "afford" a bike. Everything I have I've worked hard for. It is stupid and irresponsible to buy a bike but then claim, "oh poor me, I can't afford gear now, I guess I'll just have to ride without it." No one ever said that a rider with little money = a bad rider. What we said is that it is irresponsible to buy a bike but not gear, there is a big difference. If you can't afford gear then you can buy the bike but it should stay parked in the garage until you get your gear. Yeah, I was a nipper once, and when I wanted to buy a bike my dad said, "do you have money for the bike, insurance, safety gear, and medical insurance?" I didn't, so no bike for me.
Like someone said above, that's like buying a boat and not buying life jackets. Just as irresponsible. |
