| Re: 40 Years of rid'n...I'm done. This is why bikers should be allowed to carry guns. I just don't understand what goes through these drivers minds, or what doesn't. I was just cut off the other day by a driver on a cell phone. Luckily I saw it coming and was able to brake in time. Then I blast my horn and motion for him to pull over and out of nowhere, I hear a siren and get pulled over and the as**** gets away. Wish you the best in your recovery JSTEVE |

| Re: 40 Years of rid'n...I'm done. I had a cager open the car door on me yesterday; one hand opening the door the other holding a cell phone to his ear... W**ker!
Fortunately I saw what was going to happen just in time. I think seeing my lights in his eyes and my horn in his ears woke him up. |

| Re: 40 Years of rid'n...I'm done. man im sorry for ya, but you have to thank your lucky stars that it didnt kill you, compared to most of you guys i got nothin in riding experiance, 7ish years off road and a full year dodging cars and other wankers, only been involved in one crash, but hand up, that was my fault
a few years back my uncle was killed in a head on with a cop, they claimed he was speeding and over took a truck on the wrong side of the road, but he would have been speeding (on the wrong side of the road) past a turn he would have needed to take to get home (where he was goin) the cop that hit him got away with it.
we think the cop was speeding and hit my uncle as he crossed the lane for the turning, but cant prove a thing, it takes a different kinda person to ride bikes day in and day out, every day facing the fact that it could so easerly be our last due to a lapse in concentration from ourselves or other road users
everyday i think (as i throw my leg over my moped, my transport til the cbr is done) of how lucky we are to have complete strangers that know each of us so well simply because they face the same dangers everday, we are united against a common enemy.
i hope everything heals quick and i wish you the very best of luck at bonneville |

And therefore they stop using their cages as a telephone booth.
I don't have the actual article that I read that gives the test results available to quote, but if I am not mistaken there is no statistical difference in the scores for "attentiveness" for people on regular cell phones and on hands-free units. Both groups are just as likely, for instance, to realise only at the last minute that they have reached their freeway exit and therefore cut across traffic. Both groups have the same tendency to travel faster or slower than traffic speed.
I admit that I was surprised by the results, because it seems intuitive that handsfree would make a big difference. But the tests showed otherwise. |

| Re: 40 Years of rid'n...I'm done. I think given the technology that's available, telephones in cars should automatically switch off unless connected to hands-free units or until the motor is switched off. Problem solved. It can be done and it should be. The cost of setting the system up would be easily off-set against the costs associated with the amount of road-side accidents caused.
And if the test results above are true, then just shut the phones off from all but emergency calls.

| Re: 40 Years of rid'n...I'm done. Ok, think of it this way.
Your driving down the road, your wife/mate/who ever rings you and you pick up the phone and talk to them. Not only is your concentration else where, but your hand is off the steering wheel.
Now using a hands free kit, although your hands are free to do what ever, your mind is still else where.
I think phones should not be allowed to be used in cars unless like Surf said, an emergency.

| Re: 40 Years of rid'n...I'm done. With the shoulder replacement you will not be able to elevate the arm past 90 degrees but you should be able to work around a lot of it as a mechanic. You should not have so much pain after a shoulder replacement. How old are you? You are so right about the commuting. It is going to take ten dollar per gallon gas like in Europe to get these idiots out of the SUV's. The best thing we could do is lobby congress for a gas tax. More people on two wheels means there will be more awareness by the police and the drivers...... |

Either way not good. |

Wish you the best in your recovery JSTEVE | Who says we don't, I don't know a whole lot of bikers that don't carry in Vermont and New Hampshire. Nice little 357 revolver or the similar. I also like those automatic window breakers, those are very effective for getting attention. I think cell phones are worse than drunk drivers in most ways, here is a person that made a choice to pay attentino more to their phone than running over things in there 4k lb car...ugh
Kill em all, let God sort em out! |
