Stupid cage

So... just got back from ER... I was just finishing a two hour ride with my dad and was coming along the road about a mile from my place and driving speed limits (50-55km/h). Two cars in the left hand lane, one turning left, both slowing down. I keep going in my lane and just as im starting to pass the second car... he swerves into my lane. I collide with his right rear panel, manage to create a huge dent, take off his mirror and try to recover. However, to the right is a fence, to the left is the car, straight ahead is a curb. The bike is wobbling so much i cant do much (given more road, i would have been fine) But i smoked the curb, and from what ive been told... my suspension collapsed, i flew over the handle bars, performed at least one flip, turned sideways, rolled with my arms tucked in around my body and then slid for about 60ft before stopping. What i remember is going over the bars thinking "Aw this is going to suck" and then sliding, getting up and walking to my bike. It had auto shut off and thats when i thought "I should concentrate on trying to breathe".
I dont believe im at fault at this... I dont think i would have done anything different, unless i had punched my horn but that would not have helped i dont think. Let me know. as soon as his insurance company tells me (im hoping he gets fault, he turned into my lane) that they are going to replace my bike... Im gonna start shopping and want to know what i could do to improve my situation.

Injuries:
Bruised ribs
skinned knee

Collateral:
Front suspension
windshield
scraped fairings
both rims
probably my clutch system
footpegs
helmet
jacket has character
Practically the entire front end and left side.
pair of jeans

Im just happy to be alive as i barely missed a light post and tree when i skid (about 1/2 a foot) and cant wait to get a new bike or fix up my baby. i wont ever ride without my leathers or a helmet... ever. I saw what happened to those and i dont want my skin to look like that.

Re: Stupid cage

Sorry to hear about your bad luck, sounds like you were in his blind spot, the only mistake you made was that you did not assume he was going to do what he did. Anyway from your description of events it sounds like he was in the wrong. Good luck with it and on a positive note your going to be ok.

Re: Stupid cage

Yeah i was thinking about that. I guess i assumed he had seen me as i was coming up behind him. I had only been beside him for a second maybe. My dad said he didnt even signal to change lanes, just pulled into me. Oh well. Stuff happens, im okay, i still want to ride. no use stressing about it until i find out whats going on. figured id share some pictures of her, shes not the worst on this forum thats for sure, but still hurts me deep.

Ouch dude hate to hear it. I learned the definiton of the term dead right many years ago. Unfortunately even though you were in the right you still came away with the short end of the stick. Glad your still with us, use this as a learning experience mang and get back in the saddle.

Re: Stupid cage

great to see you are all right though!.
Did the Cage stop to help?

Post some pics of your lid and leathers to show these Squids that have big mouths on here what could happen to their skin or pip.

Re: Stupid cage

Yeah he stopped. He was 23 years old, and felt horrible. Nice guy tho, by the time i could breathe he was already getting out of his car and asking if i was ok. Also, just found out that i got up, stumbled over to my bike, turned the key off (im sure the engine was off from the tilt sensor, but i still needed to do the motion i guess) and then tried to get my breath back.
Ill add that these pictures are from sliding on grass only, at no point did i contact pavement, but may have hit my bike. The jacket is pretty expensive and every time i look at it i think, if i had been wearing a t-shirt, that would be my ribs, you could see my shoulder blade there... And if i hadnt had my helmet my left eye would be toast and my head would have been pulp at the back.

Like i said, not the worst damage, but enough to scare any thoughts of stupid riding.
