| Close Call I've never heard of this happening to someone but you never know.
I was driving down this fun road in my city, its a series of sharp twisties that goes for about 3/4 of a km.
It was a nice Sunday so I decided to go out for a cruise.
I'm driving down this road, and as I enter the last turn, my back wheel starts drifting. It was as if the back brake was locked, but worse because I wasn't slowing down. It was tricky steering and the closest I've ever come to an accident, and to tell the truth it was actually pretty fun. I pulled over into a parking lot ten seconds later and see a pool of oil appear under my bike. Look at the bottom, there is NO drainage screw. My back tire was COMPLETELY covered in oil, it looked like someone poured a litre of it onto the tire.
So what happened was the drainage screw fell out, and right before I went through the last turn, all the oil flew onto my back tire causing me to drift through the last turn.
I called the fire dept to clean it up, but unfortunately another cyclist came ripping through before they arrived, he saw a large streak of dark liquid in the turn but assumed it was water and leaned right into it, he slid, scratched his bike up but he was fine. We exchanged insurance and I walked my bike home.

| Re: Close Call Glad the guy did not get hurt who hit the oil. I always replace the crush washer about every 3rd oil change |

| Re: Close Call Glad you came out ok
I know the booklet always says check your bike before taking it out, but not many people do when dealers do their services. How long ago was the oil changed? If its the dealers fault, follow it up with them.
Good luck and ride safe

| Re: Close Call U cant check everything...those things can screw out slowly with vibration and still keep the oil in, then bang out it falls...U lucky guy could have been worse. Ive hit pleanty diesel oil patchs and had the back end trying to race me - bit exciting to say the least.
First thing to do is throw some dirt on the patch of oil, most riders will miss it then. |
