Originally Posted by flabre All in all, how much did it cost to put your bike back together? Just wondering because it looks like there was quite a bit of damage done in the crash. BTW, how fast were you going when this happened? | First order from Ron Ayers consisted of all new plastic, radiator, rear rim, shift linkage, rear brake pedal, headlight assembly, mirrors, blinkers. Came to a little under $3400.00..Insurance paid me $7200.00 pretty close to total could have had $8650 worth of damage until they totaled.
I also did all the work myself..Which also saved the bike from being totaled. Insurance gave me credit for 18 hours of labor at $48 an hour.
Then I added the Jardine, Power Commander and Puig windscreen which came in around $800.00 so about $4200 total. Came out $3000.00 ahead. The frame was just scratched I just touched it up for now will strip the bike in the off season and repaint it.
Speed somewhere between 70 to 80 M.P.H guessing.
Parts from the dealer were a lot higher than Roy Ayers..Example mid cowls $336.00 from the dealer $235 from Ron Ayers.
I have insurance with State Farm at the time of the crash the adjuster said the bike was not even in their computer system, told the adjuster I could get part #'s. Told me to strip the bike pile all the bad parts in a pile which I did, and had everything ready for her when she got here. Took my parts list got on her laptop for 30 minutes and came out of the car and said how does $7200 sound, I said works for me!
Picked up the check the next day from the claims office and ordered the parts! Did wait 7 weeks for 2 mid cowl stays Just got them last Friday.
Ordering the ignition module Monday |

-jh | Thanks on the bike.... Other comment funny, but I group everyone together makes no difference to me if you do 5 over the speed limit or 100 still breaking the law. And anybody that says they don't speed is a hypocrite.
Of course my own opinion... |

Glad you're ok redrider67 | I would not recommend it, but did come out way ahead on the bike. Easier to pick up a second job for a few months to get mod money |

-jh | I don't understand what people are finding funny about this.
Sounds to me like you just wanna know what curve it was the guy lost it on. but if you look you can see he was heading away from the camera. the opposite direction all the other bikes are facing, they probably had to turn around. |

That's what jhonda41 was insinuating. It meant no harm and was just in fun. This could happen to any of us and redrider67 was nice enough to post his mishap and maybe make us all a little more aware. This certainly wasn't what redrider67 was doing but check this link from youtube to see what I mean. The irony of this is you go from hero to zero right on tape. YouTube - Motorcycle wreck |

| Re: Low Slide June 1st..Crash Pics and After pics Happy to hear that you are OK. Good gear keeps you well.
And also happy that you have been able to get the bike back to snuff.
However, frankly I am a bit perturbed about somebody coming ahead on the insurance in a single vehicle accident. I would probably think differently if it was me, and I know that all too many people get less than they deserve, but I believe this kind of situation sends rates even higher. Should we be asking for insutrance companies to do a better job of determining replacement values?
Getting 18 hours at $48 makes sense, and I would certainly agree that it is deserved. Was it just because of the difference between Dealer and Ron Ayers?
I have also read that scratches on a frame means that it will be deemed an automatic write-off, and that bikes have a salvage title after such incidents. Is this a state-by-state thing? Will this be an issue if/when you ty to wsell in the future?
What do others think? |

Glad your okay tho, coming off at that speed your super lucky you didnt get more damage! Also, im happy to hear your back riding again! |

By the looks of the skid you seem to have been going away from the camera, then hit the box and lost it?

| Re: Low Slide June 1st..Crash Pics and After pics Total loss rules vary from state to state based on state insurance laws. As far as I know though in every state any frame damage i.e. scratch will automatically total a bike. In Oklahoma anything over 60% of ACV is an autmatic total with the owner having first right of refusal to buy it back for salvage. At 90% ACV or greater it is junked and may not be bought back.
From the sounds of it he had a very inexperienced agent/adjustor/claims rep. |

| Re: Low Slide June 1st..Crash Pics and After pics Wow to answer all the questions, no we were not filming or taking pics. My friends had to turn around to make sure I was ok.
Frame was scratched, not dinged or dented. I could have went up to $8650 before State Farm would have totaled it.
Adjuster was experienced as you said laws vary state to state and in IL you cannot buy a totaled vehicle unless it is more than 9 years old.
All the damage was mainly cosmetic, radiator and rear rim, rear brake pedal shift linkage only mechanical issues.
As far as getting ahead, I saved money by getting the parts from Ron Ayers kind of stupid for me to pay $340 apiece for my mid cowls from the dealer when I bought them from Ron Ayers for $236.00.
Or $600 for a rear rim which I got for $493 from Ron Ayers. You get the point! |

By the looks of the skid you seem to have been going away from the camera, then hit the box and lost it? | The pictures were all taken after the crash.. If you look at the 3rd pic I was already down and sliding about 20 to 30 feet before the pic starts.
As I was sliding down the road back end of the bike came around and right at the driveway and mailbox, my left Sidi boot took out the mail box post then I went airborne with the bike. If you look at the first pic, the darker colored soil is the bike digging into the dirt and the lighter marks is me bouncing and sliding up the hill to my resting place. |

From the sounds of it he had a very inexperienced agent/adjustor/claims rep. | In IL it is pretty much the same with the exception of a new vehicle, then they go up to 75% of value.
The 2 adjusters that were here have been working with State Farm for over 10 years so I don't know what would be considered experienced! |

| Re: Low Slide June 1st..Crash Pics and After pics First, I am glad you are okay and the bike is repaired.
Doing 70-80 on a public road when marked 35 is downright stupid. Dangerous for you and for anyone in the oncoming lane.
Take it to the track. |

Take it to the track. | Thanks for the well wishes As far as track days, I live pretty far away from any decent tracks.
I have logged almost 100,000 miles on back roads the last 6 years and this was my first crash on the back roads.
But it has slowed me down on the street I am actually getting over 2500 miles to a back tire now |
