First time down after 15 years...

Well i went down tonight...The car in front of me locked up her brakes trying to avoid a car in front of her.I got on my brakes hard until I realized I wasnt gonna stop in time so I tried to turn and lost the front end.The girl was nice enough to stop, she said the car in front decide it wanted to turn without using their ****ing blinkers.
My bike suffered a broken rear blinker barely bent shifter and some rash on my numberplate nothing outragous.I crash test my new jacket the day it came in the mail (no scuffs I wouldve threw a fit )

We all need these little reminders once in a while, I'm glad your's didn't cost you much, and I'm not just referring to monetary cost. To go down with cars around...yikes, it sounds like you made the best of a bad situation.

Nice work. thats one of my biggest fears in traffic, chain reactions. I probably would have done the same, glad nothing big was damaged on you or the bike.

Hope everything is ok and not too badly damaged.

Setanta - I was riding on the outside when I was swiped (bloke on the left decided to do a U-turn without looking...)

Re: First time down after 15 years...

Sorry about your crash. You got off very easy with the damage to your bike. A month ago I hit some gravel that came up onto the road due to heavy rain. I hit the gravel doing only about 25 mph, low sided on the left and slid into the ditch. Thank god for full coverage insurance. The bill was over $5500 to replace all the rashed up parts. No structural damage at all. The price of parts for these bike is unbelievable.

I forgot to mention that I had frame sliders on my bike when I went down. Had the Vortex cut-style sliders. Here is what was left of the left slider:

Not for nothing but I figured that would be the way i went down.Gravel is my number 1 concern followed by deers. Its humbling experience when **** like this happens.Im usually so focus on these nutballs. I still cant believe it happened.

Im glad youre ok and up and running 25 mph can produce alot of damage.

By the way sense you mentioned "color rite" I just thought I'd tell you it doesn't match perfect right out of the can. Your best bet would be to find someone that knows how to tint automotive paint for your permenant fix.

Re: First time down after 15 years...

personally I'd sand it so its smooth and then spray over it, can be done carefully without having to remove the fairings.. once winter comes it can be taken off and have a proper spray job done on it..

Re: First time down after 15 years...

good thing you and the bike are ok. i also went down last week. combinition of new tires and a mis-routed clutch cable. made a right. clutch pulled in and cut all power to the rear. so i let it out alitte quicker than i should have (if i had the old rear tire it wouldn't have been a problem) back tire slid out from undernearth me and WHAM! i get thrown into the middle of the road and my bike rockets up the curb and falls on the grass near the sidewalk. mirror and alittle rash. was wearing gear so. i came away with only a bruise. i know how you feel! we have to learn that the rubber is supposed to contact the road and not us!!! p.s. if anyone can tell me how the clutch cable is supposed to be routed on the 01 929 that would be most excellent *clearly it's causing issues* RUBBER SIDE DOWN GUYS!!!!!

Re: First time down after 15 years...

i just bought the bike a month ago and found out the hard way that the clutch cable is not where it is. the guy i bought it from took everything apart and put it back together. apparantly he did everything else but put the clutch cable in right!!! bike isn't bad at all. it had some rashes from the previous owner. i just added to the wounds! we are lucky. it could have been much worse! for both of us! i'll have to throw something up in the fireblades section to see if anyone can take a pic of how it is supposed to be routed. aww well! at least you or i wasn't run over!!!!!
