Wrecked my RC51

It happened on Sept. 24. My 2 cousins and a friend stopped by to go for a quick ride.My one cousin had about an hour to ride before he had to watch his daughter.we went up the road about 8 miles and pulled over so they could have a cig. We shot the bull for about 10 minutes before my cousin said he had to go and sorry to cut it short. We took off with me being third in line. We went about 200 yards and the brake lights came real quick. I had got a slow start and was catching up a little.I was afraid of hitting my cousin in front of me,so I thought I'd pass him on the right and get stopped. I had no idea why the had stopped. I checked my mirror and the road ahead and knew the other rider was to my left. As I started to go left my rear kicked out and i bumped my cousins rear with my rear.Thats all I remember until I saw the EMTs around me and I knew I was hearting. The wanted to MERCY FLIGHT me, but took me to the nearest hospital. I had a broken collar bone and some sever road rash.(My new jacket was too small and had been sent back. The new one came about 5 days after the accident). Luckily I went home that nite. I had to see the bike and i WANTED TO CRY.Had just gotten it 2 months earlier and had only put 700 miles on it. It was a 01 RC51 with only 3750 miles on it! The rear rim was totaled and the front fearing and speedometer were also. went to the Docs today and had more x-rays. i may need surgery.Come to find out, my cousins told me they had stopped cuz some idiot had run out in the road and yelled "slow the f*** down". The dude(in his 30's) has had toys and gone like a bat out of hell. He happens to be building a new house there.Well I see the lawyer tomarrow. hopefully this dude is going to pay.By the way no tickets were issued. I talked to the trooper and said can't see where we we speeding or anything.hope these lawyers can work there magic!

Wow. Sorry to hear that man. I hope your surgery goes well and that you are able to repair your ride. A guy I work with has an RC51 and loves it.

If the accident was somehow innevitable, it's too bad you didn't hit the idiot along the way. get well soon, and get all you can from the guy, and fix the rc

Re: Wrecked my RC51

Thanks everyone. I'm slowly healing and have the bike tore down. Just hired the lawyers and we're going after the idiot for all medical,BIKE REPAIRS, lost wages and some for pain and suffering. Didn't want to do it,but I know it wouldn't of happened it he didn't come out. I hear that he says he may have caused it. I' ll post some before and after pics in the future.

Man sorry about the bike and your injuries Good to hear you are ok though! Hope the guy who caused this accident is man enough to admit he caused it and was in the wrong. Then it won't be one of those drawn out court issues.

Re: Wrecked my RC51

I am so very sorry to hear about your injuries. I hope you recover soon. I am in the same boat. I crashed on the 29th of October. I also own an rc 51. My bike is bad shape but it will make it with some mechanical and body work.

I live in S. Cal. What city do you live in? Take good care of your self.

Re: Wrecked my RC51

this is why motorcycle riders should be allowed to carry pugil sticks.....(except the pads at the end would be loaded with battery acid)....to fix donkeys like this clown who decided to become Robocop and enforce the traffic laws by putting someone's life at risk....

karma is a funny thing....hope his dough sails into your pocket

Re: Wrecked my RC51

Thanks everyone. Just returned to work last week. I'm still at about only 80%. Talked to the lawyer and he said things are looking good and to just heal-up. They(lawyers) have done the investigation and interviews and said it takes time, but things look good for me. I can't wait till after the first of the year so I can start on my bike. I'm going to have the frame checked. It seems fine, but i want to be sure before I start on it. If it's not then I'll start looking for a differnt bike.Happy holidays to all and let the good weather get hear so we can all ride!!!!

Re: Wrecked my RC51

Got a copy of the letter that the lawyer has sent to the road idiot! They have also contacted my buddies I was riding with to get their take on the accident. I hope this thing goes the way I hope-fast and a fair settlement. Not sure if i should buy a differnt bike or fix this one. It's an 01 -RC51 with about 4300 miles, power comander,yorsh-pipes. I'm going to have the frame checked. It needs a rear rim, tire, seat cowl,sub-frame, ride side body, front cowl, intake box, windscreen, break lever. This is just what is broken. I hope I don't find more. What does everone think A new 51 or fix the old one?

I'm sort of a hands-on-guy. I'd fix the old one up with some after-market bits and pieces.

If the settlement comes through and it decent to cover new + mods, that's probably the ticket.

Don't know where you live, or how the insurance coverage works: When my Blade was wrecked the insurance company would NOT let me do the work myself - too much fraud or whatever. (The shop that did the work was substandard - I'll never use them for anything other than parts.)
